My dd1 had her 12 weeks scan today and they found a couple of things on her scan ( she's heartbroken) they is a thickness in baby's neck, and the bladder is very prominent and has a circle round it. She has to go to Leeds to the fetal medicine place.anybody else had same thing think she's also had a test for downs but not 100% sure she was sobbing that much.

Unfortunately it's not good news they gave her two choices she can terminate the pregnancy now ( 16 weeks ) or carry on but baby will pass away soon after birth. My poor daughter is only 30 this has broke her and her bf. She says she doesn't know what to do but I said it's up to you to decide, we are all heartbroken 💔😭

That's quite a different diagnosis altogether than what they initially thought, I'm so very sorry op, that's just tragic. 💐

It's a tough decision to make. I'm not sure I could continue with a PG knowing that there is little hope of survival.

Really feel for you and your family Flowers

mumof31968 · 23/03/2023 16:49

She's at the hospital next week but she's not sure if it's tablets or an op to get baby out. She didn't want to resort to this. But she doesn't want to go full term ( not quite sure) how long they will leave her. She's doesn't want to give birth only to see the baby pass. We are all heartbroken.

I'm so sorry to see this outcome, OP.

Your daughter will probably be given a drip to bring on contractions, and be offered an epidural. This is a tragedy for all the family, but especially for her.

BT11 · 23/03/2023 21:51

So sorry to hear 😞

Whatever decision she makes I'm sure she'll make the right one for her.

It seems like she has lots of love and support and I know she is strong enough get through this tough time.

Please make sure you also get all the support you need too. It's a sad time for everyone I'm sure.

Lots of hugs x 💐

Baby was a little girl not a boy as they thought they had genetic testing done, my daughter feels like she's lost baby all over again.💔😭

Hi

Sorry I know this is an old thread but I just wanted to jump on and say I've had exactly the same at my 12 week scan. This friday just gone, 12th May.

Babys bladder is very distended and nuchal thickness is nearly 5mm. I'm being referred to Leeds, just waiting for the phone call. Its been agonising having to wait over the weekend. Gutted.

Hope your daughter is managing to heal from this xx

The mermaid syndrome (sirenomelia) is an extremely rare anomaly, an incidence of 1 in 100,000 births, in which a newborn born with legs joined together featuring a mermaid-like appearance (head and trunk like humans and tail like fish), this is what she had 😭💔
