Hi everyone, first pregnancy and a first time poster here. I've just had a letter from the NHS with a date for my first trimester scan. It is telling me to go to the Fetal Medicine Department. Is that normal? I'm now anxious that there is something in my medical history that means there could be complications. Where would you normally expect to be told to go for your first scan?

Normal depending on where you are - all my scans were at the FMC. It's a good thing!

It may just be they are using the FM department ultrasound as swing space so to speak. Also One hosiptal I was at had a shared fetal medicine and prenatal unit and all the scans were there. Another just did all ultrasounds (prenatal or not) in same place so it varies even within a trust. They've probably got a certain number of ultrasound rooms and fit appointments in where space so I wouldn't worry unduly

Yes that’s normal Smile

Phew!! Thank you so much. It sounded so serious that I immediately panicked. Really appreciate the reassurance
