Am I worrying for no reason?

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone had been through anything similar.

In June we had a termination due to T18, it was obvious at the 12 week scan- high NT, bowels outside the body and measuring a week behind. Screening gave us a 1 in 12 chance, we terminated and post mortem confirmed.

Fast forward to this week had a 12 week scan for new pregnancy and it was perfect, NT was 1.1m, everything as it should and measuring bang on track.

I phoned up for my blood results and they have sent me into a tail spin.
B-HCG 0.31 MoM
PAPP-A 0.5 MoM.
I should say this has put me in the low risk category 1 in 1300 for T18/T13 and 1in 10000 for T21.
They are just a bit too low for my liking! Low bloods are indicative to T18 and I just cant help but think its happening again. :/ bloods were lower in my previous pregnancy.

Midwives aren't worried at all but she could tell i was worried so has arranged for me to speak to a consultant if it would help calm me down.

I just so wanted to be no ambiguity, with my healthy daughter both numbers were around the 1 mark. Ergh does this anxiety never end.

Anyone had lowish numbers and it all be fine?

Hi OP,

After a confirmed Trisomy pregnancy you are eligible to have a NIPT through the NHS. It's pretty new (I was one of the first ones earlier this year) so I'd push for this to be done to ease your mind. You'll have to have a consultation with a genetic counsellor before (over the phone) to go through everything etc but it really has calmed my nerves to have it done after my TFMR.

OP Dyu mind me asking your age? My results were much higher risk in my second pregnancy, albeit not that high, and the midwife explained age is a huge factor. You might find it helpful to google average figures for your age?

Hi OP, I'm sorry about your other pregnancy! Congratulations on this one. My bloods were significantly lower with my second (18month gap) and I was worried too so I got the Harmony test even though I was technically low risk too. Expensive but so worth it to me and the results came back as close to zero as possible and second baby is perfect! Good luck x

@NoCallerID sadly my trust don't offer the NIPT at all. I've had genetic counselling recently and they have tested my husband and I's chromosome 18 and we got the results back on friday and we dont have the translocation thankfully! So that has calmed me a little. They do offer CVS for those with previous t18 losses but as i am technically "low risk" this time round my husband doesn't feel comfortable with anything invasive. We are going to do the NIPT privately I think, anything to settle the anxiety! Thanks for responding I really appreciate it, nerves after TFMR are like nothing i have ever experienced before! I feel like only people who have been through it understand it. :/

@kitkatsky i am 29 this time round, i was 26 with my healthy daughter so a little older. I am also a lot less healthy! 🤣

I keep trying to tell myself "different numbers, different pregnancy" but its tough to shake the doubts!

@LittleCatDog thank you :) yes I think we are going to do the NIPT test, anything to settle the anxiety! Interesting to hear your numbers were really different too. Its hard not to compare. Eek fingers crossed.

Just got my NIPT back... all fine!!! And its a boy! I cant believe it I am one of 4 girls, and we have all had girls so far.

Maybe thats why the hormones are so different from my daughter?!

So happy! Thanks to all those who responded. All this makes you so anxious.
