What causes high HCG bloods?

Hi
Hoping anyone has more information on this than me because I couldn't get any answers from the hospital

A little insight of my story -
My 12 weeks scan was all showing fine and then my bloods came back as high risk - I was given a 1:12 chance of baby having DS

I was an emotional mess and turned to the internet for my own answers
I booked in for the amniocentesis test - (I was 16 weeks) which was horrific but the results did come back as clear - they said it was just testing for the 3 main chromosomes because of how high my HCG levels were

I felt such happiness and relief but still so anxious for my 20 weeks scan
I'm 20 weeks now and my scan is next Friday.

I can't relax or enjoy my pregnancy yet and I guess I just want to know if anyone has been in this position, and then anxious for their 20week scan

And my main question, which I guess is why I can't relax leading up to the scan, what would have caused the very high HCG result if there really is nothing wrong?!

Thanks for taking the time to read my waffling! X

I’m just a couple of weeks on the other side of this. Do you know what your levels were?

Mine were the following

PAPPA .24
HCG 6.87

This gave me 1:4 chance of DS so I too did the amnio and received a normal chromosome result for both the 3 days DS screen and the full 3 week screen for all chromosomes.

I had my 20 week ultrasound at 18 weeks which was 2 hours. They checked all the things with baby placenta as well as my kidneys liver and ovaries.

It is my understanding that the high HCG could be multiples and if not it could be that an organ isn’t working properly or tumours.

I can’t remember if it was the high HCG or the low PAPPA that could be indicator of preeclampsia. Apparently there’s nothing that can be done to stop this from happening.

I’ve been thoroughly examined and they have found nothing which it seems is what they expected.

Seems like so much stress for no reason at this point.

Thinking of you and hope all ends well 💕
