Hey, I wanted to say if anyone has had worrying results from their initial NhS screening particularly if you’re older (I’m 39) then there is hope and I’m thinking of all you ladies who are waiting on results. I have been waiting for my NIPT all last week and found it so so tough and it came back ok. Also, having a little one with downs would have been lovely as well and wouldn’t have made any different to us. My heart literally goes out to all you ladies who are awaiting results and I pray you all have outcomes that are ok for your babies. I wish we didn’t have to go through this xxxx

Hey Sunshine, thank you for this message Smile - I just got out of bed with a feeling that 'the letter' had arrived and i had missed it... I was right, it was there stuck under the mat. My screening has come back 1 in 145 for downs. I don't really understand my numbers, my scan was at 13.2...

NT 1.4mm
hCG 2.93
Papp-a 1.13
NT MoM 0.76

I'm 42 at EDD which I'm guessing is what's pushing my risk up, but maybe someone has an idea about the blood test numbers?

I've got an appointment to talk over my options on Monday and I just don't know what would be best - take the NIPT and more waiting and deciding or go straight for an amnio (I'll be 15 weeks by then).

Any thoughts appreciated, and thank goodness for this community. My partner wanted us to go to sleep and talk in the morning, I just had to get up and google!

Hello, it’s nice to see a positive message as I am struggling whilst waiting for NIPT results for a second time! Luckily all was well with my DS but I am disappointed to be going through it again. If Anything I am finding it worse this time as I am dreading the additional scans and appointments even if the NIPT look ok.

@Turtle79 the screening midwife mentioned to me that they prefer the hCg and Papp-a to be as close to one as possible so I think your slightly raised hCg plus age might have increased your result. I don’t think you need to worry too much based on those figures though, but I am by no means an expert.

SarahD19 · 16/04/2021 16:26

@Turtle79 that is actually lower risk than average for your age so those figures are pretty good! Hope you’re ok and wishing you all the best xx

@Sunshine1982flowers211111 fantastic news Smile xx

@Turtle79 hey lovely xx I would actually be quite happy with those numbers - mine was 1 in 93 and I’m 39. Your NT measurement is nice and low - mine was too at 1.7mm. Try to relax and be positive especially if the scan went well. It’s obviously totally up to you whether you do the amino or NIPT - we just chose NIPT as it was simply a blood test. I wish you and your baby so much health and happiness x so many ladies on here have got results which seem higher risk but when they have further tests it’s all come back much lower risk. I totally empathise with how you’re feeling as I had 2 weeks of being up and down with it all x

@MustStopSnacking28 I had my NIPT last Thursday and for the results yesterday so a week of waiting and it was so so tough. I was a bit snappy to my partner who is such a lovely bloke and I feel awful about it. I totally understand how you feel xx sending positive vibes and I so hope the results will help to put your mind at rest xxx

Thank you @Sunshine1982flowers211111 the results came back clear which was good but my NT was 3.5mm so I felt better for about an hour then just started to panic again about what other problems there could be as NIPT only gives results for the main three. DH and I have decided to see how the scan looks on Monday in FMU and then just have to go from there - if any other problems are evident we will then consider an amnio at that point I think. It is just the what-ifs and waiting that is a struggle for me. @SarahD19 you seem to be very knowledgable about a lot of antenatal testing, hope your baby was ok in the end Smile

SarahD19 · 17/04/2021 11:22

@MustStopSnacking28 thank you that is a kind thing to say.

Fortunately I have been blessed with a very healthy baby. Although during pregnancy, we had the exception to pretty much every prenatal test and prognosis going! So I had to research a lot. Even trying to explain our results to people was confusing Hmm

Hope you’re ok too x

@Sunshine1982flowers211111 hey, thanks xx I went in to see the nurse yesterday and she talked me through my numbers. Because of my age my numbers are actually really good! Just as you and @SarahD19 said Smile I honestly can't tell you guys how much this thread and your posts calmed me down over the weekend! The nurse explained that the cut off for low-risk is 1 in 150 and that my bloods massively reduced my age-related risk. So I chose to have the NIPT as my NHS trust offers it and I'll get the results on Monday. I still feel a little on edge if I think about it too much but I'm also aware that so many of us go through this and mostly everything turns out just fine.
@MustStopSnacking28 I hope your scan went well yesterday x
