Late 30s - what was your Down Syndrome risk?

Mine has come back at 1/3384 which I’m assuming is good for my age. I was 34 with my DD (35 at term) and I think it was 1/7000 or something.

We were going to have NIPT regardless because my age but I’m thinking maybe it’s not necessary now.

This is really good! Mine was much higher than that with my first pregnancy at 30. I think something 1/490 or 1/690. I am 37 too but only 7 weeks so a long time to go still before I can get my score for this little one.

Thanks, I know it is too and I know I sound silly compared to lots of mums who are higher risk I think we had just got it in our heads that we were doing NIPT. I know we still could but I feel like it may be just add unnecessary anxiety, it’s not so much about the money. I might just try to relax now lol!

I'm 39 and due number 3 next week. Mine came back really low, something like 1:35000 for downs and even lower for the other abnormalities.

Oh I understand, don't worry. I will probably be the exact same. But at those odds, I'd say additional testing is not necessary, unless it is money you can easily afford, in which case I'd say go for it if it gives you peace of mind. It's not silly at all to be worried. I didn't worry about this at all 7 years ago, but when you're an older mum, it does weigh more on your mind.

@Sophiederuges We can afford it, I was just thinking of avoiding a week of unnecessary stress but we will have a think lol.

Mine was something like 1:100 at age 39. Normal for age I think. We had additional tests to be sure.

I booked NIPT before I had NHS screening results back, assuming they would be bad (same age as you), but then they came back 1:4000 for Downs and even lower for others. Decided to go ahead with NIPT to find out fetal sex rather than waiting till 20 weeks. But I felt comfortable with the risk levels given by the NHS tests.

Do private tests take into account the father's age? Or is it not relevant because it's not based on probabilities? I'm woefully ignorant. Blush

We will probably go for private NIPT as I know my fat stomach will prevent accurate measurements...

Sorry should have said that was just the standard NHS test. Didn't pay for anything additional. I've seen on my birth board younger mums with much higher odds.

Hey! I'm almost 36 and mine came back 1:14600 for Downs. This is a 0.007% chance. Working out the percentage really did stop me from being worried.

Incase you haven't already worked it out, I think yours comes out at 0.029%. It's 1÷3384 x 100 = 0.0295

Because I've forgotten all my school maths, I used these instructions sciencing.com/calculate-probability-percentages-8245777.html

38 and mine was 1:110. As that's classed as high risk I had the NIPT too and that came back low risk.

37 for dc1 and it was similar to yours OP.
40 for dc2 and it was around 1 in 5000.

Was 1:762 aged 37 and 1:650 aged 38.

Both children had no chromosomal abnormalities but the youngest has autism. Apparently increased risk is linked to the advanced age of the father. DH was 36.

Basically you can't ever have 100% assurance of no disabilities.

I was 36 and my risk with my little boy was 1:1800 which I was pleased with given the baseline risk for my age is something like 1:300. Your result is excellent!

What is it based on? I didn't pay too much attention but knew my risks were very low. Did notice that my 2nd dc had a lower risk even though I was older

Mine were 1 in 86 age 31 and 1 in 26 age 38. Had aminos with both and everything was fine.

Candle18 this gives me alot of a hope being as though my current pregnancy is 1 in 170 thanks for sharing :)

I am 36 and I had 1/72000

I was expecting it to be like 1/1000 or something and even considered whether I needed the anxiety waiting for the result. The midwife said age up until 40 doesn't affect the result massively

I'm 37 and my T21 risk came in at 1 in 212. T13 and T18 came in at 1 in 100k. I did call to get the exact figures of my bloodwork because I'm super fond of knowing all the facts and figures. Baby measuring 3 days ahead, and nasal bone seen.

HCG 1.9 MoM
PAPP-A 1.51 MoM
