Hello,
I’m new here so I m sorry if it is a long post or if I’m rambling. I feel like people on here may have more of an idea of what I’m currently going through and I am desperately seeking answers!

At my dating scan (12 weeks) I was told that baby had a high nt fluid of 5.9mm. we had all the blood work done, referred to the fetal medicine unit and told what to expect etc. The bloods came back normal with a low risk for downs and trisomy 13 and 18.
A week later we went to the fetal medicine unit where they scanned again and did the CVS test. We got the first part of the results 2 days later which came back with no abnormalities, then we Waited 4 weeks for the rest of the results, which again came back with no abnormalities. Since the tests came back normal i was referred for a fetal echo, which I am currently waiting for.
I had my 20 week anatomy scan, everything looked fine structurally, though when they measured the Nuchal fold again it measured at 7.8mm, but she said it looked different sizes at different angles. We were seen by a consultant to explain the still increased measurement. He told us that he could have every sonographer there scan me and they would get 3 or 4 different measurements as they’re not 100% accurate. he told me that from getting normal cvs results and everything he could see from the scan, he wouldn’t really see much point in doing another detailed scan and just to keep regularly checking babies growth.
I’m trying to keep positive in the fact that everything seen on my scan was fine, but the upcoming echo is making me so nervous and I have the worst feeling!
I’m just wondering if anyone has been through the same and what the fetal echo results ended up being?
Thanks

@Kaymum2bof3, baby was lying in the wrong postion to get access to do a CVS I also have a tilted uterus so wouldn't have been able to get to the placenta. Had to wait until 15 weeks for amnio.
I have just had the first set of results back all negative. X

Kaymum2bof3 · 31/12/2020 15:14

@S83M ah I see now, the wait must have been excruciating as I had to wait a week and it was every minute not knowing what was going to happen was torture. So happy to hear your first set of results are negative! Did they also tell you the sex of the baby? They asked us and we agreed.
I have another scan booked in for 3 weeks time so they can check for further issues and described it as all my filling cabinets (chromosomes) are where they need to be but we now need to open up each filing cabinet to see what other issues it could be... I’m still super nervous as the doctor did tell us our baby has higher than normal fluid around so we still need to consider our ‘options’ but we’re taking it one test at a time 🙏🏼

S83M · 31/12/2020 15:55

Yes we are having another boy, saves on clothes if all is well. We must just stay positive. If the next set of results are clear we will then have a scan at 20 weeks to check structure of heart and skeleton. Happy new year to you xx

PinkertonRab · 01/01/2021 10:52

Really pleased to see better news for you @kaymum2bof3

Hope the results don't take too long @S83M 🤞

Kaymum2bof3 · 01/01/2021 10:57

@PinkertonRab thank you so much-
I pray for a much better 2021 for you 🙏🏼
@S83M happy new year to you too! You are right, the key is to stay positive and one test at a time ✨ congrats about finding out what your having x

Hi all I am in my first pregnancy and 13 weeks plus 2 days. Today I had my first scan and they gave me the devastating news that the fluid around the neck was 6.7. Im 32 and this is just heartbreaking news for me and my partner - we have been offered the CVS and we will probably take it but looking into private non avasive tests too- sorry for the long post but I don’t know what to you I’m just so upset

Tillyfloss1 · 04/01/2021 22:47

@Mum0721 I'm so so sorry to hear your news and I feel for you it's incredibly difficult to cope with. Have you had your bloods taken too? I had the cvs and for me it was straightforward and the results quick. I didn't do the non invasive tests as the wait would have been longer. Xxx

S83M · 04/01/2021 22:53

@Mum0721im so sorry.
It comes as quite a shock I know.
Once you see a consultant they explain things alot more and it is not always as bad as it first seems. Easier said then done I know but you must stay positive and take one test at a time. When are you booked in for the CVS? I will be thinking of you xx

Kaymum2bof3 · 04/01/2021 23:32

@Mum0721i felt just the same way as you did and the doctors really make you feel there is no hope and even advise you to take options of ‘terminating’ but really you need to take the tests and wait for each result before making any decision. We were told our baby was full of fluid with very likely chance she will have abnormalities but the results for abnormal chromosomes came back negative giving us hope, we are still waiting on the rest of the results which is very nerve racking but the key thing to remember is the doctors are not always right and you will read many stories on here where others have gone on to have completely healthy babies which I am hoping for too 🙏🏼💕 sending you love

Mum0721 · 05/01/2021 09:31

@Tillyfloss1 thank you :) yes they took my bloods but they said they were sure they would come back high risk because of the 6.7 reading. They were all very nice but I did leave the hospital feeling hopeless. I’m just worried about the miscarriage rates with CVS

Mum0721 · 05/01/2021 09:32

@S83M thank you - they haven’t booked me In for it yet but I’ve been referred so hoping to get a call today- just a bit scared about it all. Xx

Mum0721 · 05/01/2021 09:34

@Kaymum2bof3 thank you it’s so nice to know we aren’t alone with this. Reading these stories really gives me hope - I think I’m just in a state of shock - everything I planned and thought would happen has been thrown up in the air. Xx

Tillyfloss1 · 05/01/2021 09:43

@Mum0721 my risk was slightly reduced from the bloods but I still came back high risk because of my age (39) and the measurement. I had the same worries about the miscarriage risk. It was a few weeks ago now so I hope that risk has passed for me now. I booked mine and the midwife said I could change my mind right up until the last minute which gives you the chance to ask the consultant any questions about the procedure and see how you feel. They did a further detailed scan prior to my cvs and there was a lot of time to ask questions and finally confirm I was going to go ahead with it. Xxx

Mum0721 · 05/01/2021 11:18

@Tillyfloss1 so glad your risk time has passed :) I’ve just had a call to say my next appointment is this Thursday so will get the opportunity to ask questions - I’m just praying that my baby is healthy and trying to stay positive

Tillyfloss1 · 05/01/2021 11:21

@Mum0721 I will be praying with you xx

Mum0721 · 05/01/2021 19:00

Update I have an appointment on Thursday for a detailed scan and either cvs or private blood we will make the decision when we are there. Thank you all for your kind words reading these posts has given me hope and determination that my baby will be fine :) thinking of you all x

Hi everyone... I'm hoping you don't mind me joining the club that no-one really wants to be part of but I'm in desperate need of people who have experienced the same.

Like @Mum0721I had my 12 week scan on Monday and was told that our baby had a NT of 7.0mm and hydrops. The experience was horrendous. I was on my own and the Sonographer basically said 'everything is not okay' but wouldn't explain anything else.

I was referred to University College FMU today and had a further abdominal ultrasound, a CVS and a trans-vaginal ultrasound. The trans-vaginal ultrasound confirmed a NT of 6.8 but the Specialist was able to tell me that there was no hydrops and structurally the baby looked okay.

It's now a waiting game...I think the longest four days of my life. Sleep is not my friend and the hours drag. My husband and I are ying and yang (we always are). He thinks positive and I'm definitely expecting the worst.

Did anyone else have a trans-vaginal ultrasound as part of the testing? Did this show anything for you?

Mum0721 · 06/01/2021 23:41

@MilkshakeandChips5 I know exactly how you feel- it is honestly the worst feeling in the world but I am sending you light and positivity. I am
Going in tomorrow for a further ultrasound so will let you know how that goes - thinking of you and you are in my prayers xx

MilkshakeandChips5 · 07/01/2021 05:46

@Mum0721 wishing you the best of luck today. If it helps at all, I would agree with others that the CVS is not too bad. Uncomfortable and I closed my eyes so I didn't see it happen but not bad.

I also found getting a little bit of clarity and having my questions answered somewhat calming. I am expecting the worst but I appreciated the honesty of the Doctors.

I have my fingers crossed for you. If you want to talk to someone who's experiencing exactly the same - I'm here (equally panicked and broken but still here)

Mum0721 · 07/01/2021 15:40

Hi @MilkshakeandChips5
Had a positive experience today- opted for the blood screening instead of CVS and hoping I won’t need an amnio.
Had another trans abdominal scan and baby was moving loads -nasal bone was there as was everything else they would expect to see as well as 4 heart chambers.
The doctor said the NT reading was more like 4-5 today so went with the higher of 5 but this is somewhat lower than Monday when it was 6.7.
Feeling positive and hopeful and sending all my prayers and thoughts to you too. This is honestly the worst thing I’ve ever been through but shows how strong us mums can be 💖 please also reach out if you need to xxxxx

MilkshakeandChips5 · 07/01/2021 16:04

@Mum0721 this sounds like positive news! I was hoping for a reduction in the measurements but sadly not. It's a long waiting game. Were they able to check the anatomy for you?

I would love to be positive but feeling extremely despondent today and anticipating the worst news. I have my fingers crossed for you.

Tillyfloss1 · 07/01/2021 16:37

@Mum0721 that's really positive news I'm so pleased for you. I know you shouldn't get too hung up on specific measurements and so on but for what it's worth, my measurement was 4.8mm and my CVS results were negative. I felt like I really needed to know so went ahead with it but at that stage I was also told everything structurally appeared normal, I've got another fetal echo tomorrow (20 weeks) and they said if that is normal I will go back to midwife led care. Keeping everything crossed for you, the waiting is absolutely tortuous but you're doing brilliantly xx

Tillyfloss1 · 07/01/2021 16:38

@MilkshakeandChips5 best of luck with your CVS results I hope the wait goes quickly xxx

Mum0721 · 07/01/2021 19:42

@MilkshakeandChips5 yes they checked anatomy and all is looking well and as it should be.
I have tried to use gratitude to keep me sane this week- being thankful for all of the good things. I am praying we both get positive results and sending you all my love and wishes xx

Mum0721 · 07/01/2021 19:45

@Tillyfloss1 thank you I am trying to be strong for the little baby I saw today :) one test and step at a time! Thank you for your positive thinking and sharing your story hoping your 16 week is all good :) I have a great feeling we are all going to be fine :) xx
