NT measurement of 6.3mm

Hi I'm new to mums net but didn't know where to turn. I had the bad news last Friday that my baby's NT measurement is extremely high at 6.3mm at 12 week scan. I then received the news that my bloods indicate I have a 1:6 chance of baby having Downs and a 1:27 chance of Edwards and Pataus. I was sent for a detailed scan yesterday and opted for the CVS. I am awaiting my results and going out of my mind. I should get them on Friday. Deep down I know there's something wrong as I haven't seen an NT measurement this high mentioned on here, plus I am 40 yearsrs old. I've been crying non stop and can't manage to go to work. Can anyone share their stories and their outcomes (good and bad) as I think it may help me. Thank you

@Amw2020 I recently had similar news, with a 7.5mm measurement. Sadly I had to have a TFMR. Here is my thread (link below). It is a horrible time and the waiting is the worst, the CVS is so conclusive that it will at least give you answers. Take care of yourself xx www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_tests_choices/4020255-7-5mm-nuchal-translucency

I had a NT of 7.5 with my middle daughter. We were told she probably wouldn't survive and if she did she'd be disabled. We decided to keep her. She had a few days in intensive care when she was born, but she survived. She has a really rare genetic syndrome which causes deafness, slow growth and learning disability, but she's such a character and we love her to bits. I'm so glad we gave her a chance at life x

@CloseEncountersOfTheTurdKind ah I'm glad your outcome was a positive one! It gives me a little bit of hope. Thank you for sharing and congrats on your lovely girl x x

Thanks, she's nearly 4 now and her resilience amazes me. She's made lots of progress and always seems to do better than the Drs expect! Hope the CVS results will be good news xx

@CloseEncountersOfTheTurdKind ah how lovely! Thank you will send an update on here.

I got my first set of CVS results back today and they're clear!! I feel so relieved but now I'm worried about what may be the cause of such a high NT measurement. Guess I'll have to wait...

@Amw2020 Great news on the all clear so far! Hopefully it’s just a random anomaly.

DifficultSituation999 · 25/09/2020 19:55

Great news on the all clear!!! One of my babies had a huge NT. We had a 1 in 9 chance of Downs. She is a perfectly healthy 4 year old now lying right next to me.

Sometimes the high NT is caused by other rare genetic disorders as for the poster above (your girl sounds lovely by the way☺️). For my girl it was caused by a complicated twin pregnancy. Sometimes the cause is never found or there is no cause - On this board you’ll find many stories of babies with huge NTs who were born healthy.

It’s a terrifying time for a pregnant mum though, good luck to you xxx

Oh I'm so glad it was good news for you! Really hope the rest of the pregnancy goes well xx

Amw2020 · 25/09/2020 20:28

Thank you everyone! We are just going to start to enjoy this pregnancy now and keep out fingers crossed 😊

Hi op. I had an NT of 6.1mm with one of my twins along with several other markers giving him a 1:14 risk for Down Syndrome and 1:28 for the Edwards and Patau. Twins are nearly 4 now and nothing wrong at all, perfectly healthy. Twin 2, the one with the high NT just had a short and fat neck and still does! Good luck x

Amw2020 · 26/09/2020 20:41

@twoticksvix ah I'm loving these positive stories! Well I was looking at my partner's neck and its pretty chubby so maybe it runs in the family! 😂. Thank you for sharing, I'm glad you had a good outcome x

@Amw2020 how did you get on with the further testing?
Hope you got the outcome you wanted

Amw2020 · 01/11/2020 17:46

@weivfgotthis Hi! Well both the first set and second set of CVS results were clear but they found a heart problem at the 16 week scan called 'Tetralogy of Fallot'. They explained it fully and basically baby will need open heart surgery at 3-6 months old and maybe key hole surgery throughout his life but should otherwise live a full and normal life. We were in some ways relieved as it's something that can be sorted, especially after initially benig told our baby is very very poorly and may not live! Thanks for asking, I forgot to update on here x

Sorry to hear your little one needs heart surgery, but good that he should be able to lead a normal life. Really hope it all goes well for you xx
