I hope it's ok to post this when I'm not actually pregnant and the baby in question is 7 years old.
Anyway, I was having a clear out and found a load of old paperwork including a scan report from my anomaly scan with dc4 who is now 7. Now ds has severe ventriculomegaly, some other brain abnormalities and other health issues that may be some undiscovered syndrome or may be a massive coincidence. Drs have always said that they don't know how or when he got his brain abnormalities but nothing was ever picked up on scans apart from cleft lip and polyhydramnios. I had loads of scans between 21 and 35 weeks so I assumed it must have happened when he was born because he was 5 weeks early. It was picked up at the newborn check that the paediatrician does because he had a big head so they did an ultrasound scan.
But when I looked at the 21 week scan report for the first time since I was pregnant then I saw both year measurements were above the 99 centile. At 21 weeks and 4 days his bpd was 59mm, hc was 211mm. His ac was just above the 50th centile and femur length was just below so just his head was big.
I'm wondering if he had his brain abnormalities and ventriculomegaly from this stage rather than as a result of his early birth. The report says that his head, brain and cerebellum "were visualised and appear normal".
I know I should probably forget about why or when this happened and just focus on ds and how he is now but I have an uncontrollable urge to know why ds is like he is.
