Hi ,
I had my combined screening when I was 12 weeks on the 18th June . After the scan , they told me they had no concerns , everything looked fine . I then got a call from a midwife 2 days later and she said she was calling about my blood test and told me I am high risk , 1:38 for DS . I don’t understand how they got this risk . I know she said they out all the data , with my age which is 35 and will be 36 when baby is born, into a computer and they get the risk that way . I’m just worried . I have a cvs on Thursday. We have two children already and our youngest will be only 1yr old next week. We decided for us that we need to know a yes or no for definite and that’s why we are going for the cvs. My first appointment for the cvs was last week but they said they could not do it because my bowel was in the way . They also said they couldn’t see any problems on the scan then either and no fetal abnormalities were found . They said my bloods were off . I’m just looking for some advice or good new stories . Anyone have bloods like this and what was the outcome ?
My results were
Age 35 (36 + 5 months when baby would be born)
NT 1.1mm
HCG 2.79 MoM
Papp-A 0:35 MoM

Thanks for any advice .

I had a "worse" risk ratio than you, 1:27, normal nuchal, older than you (40), bloods off.

Cardiac scan was normal and I had a clear amnio and uneventful pregnancy. Ds2 has no issues.

The most likely outcome, by some margin, is that all will be well.

@sleepyhead Thanks so much XX
I just got a terrible fright when she just said “Yours is high risk , it’s 1 in 38” and she was saying so much info . She also said my Papp a was low and it could lead to this and that and the other , all not nice outcomes .

I had a1 in 13 chance. 2.0 hcg, 0.37 papp a, so not too dissimilar to yours. My nuchal was 2.5mm at 13 +2 weeks. My age was 40 at term. I opted to do the NIPT test which I paid privately for. This came back as highly unlikely which I was amazed at. I sought support from ARC who reassured me that whilst it was high risk, most women with high risk results actually don't end up having a baby with a chromosome disorder. I was on daily aspirin for low papp a and had to have growth scans throughout pregnancy. Joseph was born a month ago weighing a healthy 7lbs 8oz. He measured small throughout and I was repeatedly told I'd have a small baby due to low papp a. In the end this wasn't really the case! There's a low papp a support group on Facebook which was a real support for me. I'm sure all will be well but it is such a scary, scary time. Best of luck xx

I had a 1 in 3 which was a bit of a shocker. NT was very high at 4.6, cant remember exact PAPPA and HCG (it was 9 years ago now) but PAPPA was low (maybe 0.6) and HCG high (possibly 2.5ish). I was 32.

Eventually had an amnio and all was normal, despite absolute pessimism from the medical professionals involved. DS is now 9 and entirely ‘normal’.

Sometimes it’s fine, even when the odds suck.

UncleMatthewsEntrenchingTool · 30/06/2020 23:38

Just checked my old posts, I got the PAPPA right but HCG was 3.0 (!)

Hi, sorry you’re going through the stress of this uncertainty. Just another point of view. These ratios can be very misleading psychologically. Your baby either 100% does or doesn’t have any of the conditions they are screening for. All they can do is guide you as to whether to have further tests etc. Higher risk is all they mean, not that there is now really a one in thirty eight chance your baby has anything. It already does or doesn’t. Not sure that makes sense, but I’ve always found these odds oddly delivered. Hope you’re okay.

@PeppaChic Thanks so much . Tomorrow is the day I go for the cvs. The closer it gets , the more nervous I get and it’s the waiting all weekend for the results . Last year when I was pregnant with our youngest , we were too late for the combined test , in a way I was none the wiser , maybe it was better that way. This time , it’s after causing so much stress and worry I’m worried incase the cvs hurts , I’m worried about the results . It’s been a bad two weeks xx

Good luck today OP. The CVS will be a little uncomfortable but not painful. It's over within minutes too and then they just get you to rest for a little bit afterwards before leaving. You'll be one step closer to an answer once it's done. Will be thinking of you.

PeppaChic · 02/07/2020 23:28

Hope all went okay x

Hi @RunnerGirl123 and @PeppaChic They were able to do the cvs today . It was an experience I don’t want to go through ever again . I was in such a lot of pain straight after , I could barely walk out of the hospital and I asked if I could take my little one for a walk in the evening if I felt up to it and they said “No definitely not, you need to just rest for the next two days “ but I couldn’t move anyway , so it was out of the question . They also said maybe the results might be back tomorrow evening after 4pm , so I might ring and see , if not it’ll be Monday . The wait is horrible because I keep thinking the worst xx

@sleepyhead @PeppaChic @UncleMatthewsEntrenchingTool @RunnerGirl123 @Liveforholidays
I had my test on Thursday and was very much in a lot of pain afterwards. The nurse told me that the results might be in on Friday evening after 4pm and told me I could call and see , if they weren’t there it would be Monday . On Friday I was so nervous at the thought of calling, but, my phone started ringing and I answered , it was the nurse and she told me she had my results !! All clear !! She said baby was fine !! I’m so happy ! Thank you all for the support and advice , you have no idea how much I appreciate it xx
