1:139 chance of Down’s Syndrome

1st PG and 28 yo. Just had a call to say we have a 1:139 chance of baby having Down’s syndrome due to low PAPP A and high HCG, 1.5 NT. We have booked NIPT for next week, but I’m really worried. Has anyone else been on a similar situation and baby been ok?

I was 29 and given 1:86 my NT was 4.6mm which is obviously way off the healthy bracket. We had CVS to rule out any heart conditions and everything was negative, I have a beautiful 16m old now.

It's a really scary time but just remember - that's a tiny chance youve been given.... Work it out as a percentage it must be 0.7% or something.... If you were told that's your chance of winning lottery you wouldn't be feeling very optimistic.

Hopefully the extra tests put your mind at ease x

Thank you for replying! You’re absolutely right when you put it like that. Smile

I had a 1:110 chance for Down syndrome for my combined test. I had the harmony test and it came back low risk 1:10,000. I've since had my 20 week scan no issues found. I was incredibly worried about my test results initially but even though they fall into the high risk bracket, it's still less than a 1% chance. Yours is the same, less than 1% chance of something being wrong. Hopefully you'll be fine and the NIPT will put your mind at rest. Good luck!

Absolutely, trying really hard to focus on the numbers being in our favour! So glad to hear everything’s going well for you!

Try not to worry. I was told 1 in 140 (I think). Have the nipt and then decide. I did a lot of research and nipt is very accurate for negative result but you can get a false positive. I luckily got a negative result but if I had a positive would then have had an amnio. I hope you get a clear result.

I was given 1:100 chance when I was pregnant with my first baby and at the age of 26. This was nearly 12 years ago now, so the only option for me to have a definitive result was to have an amniocentesis. All was fine and I had a healthy baby (who is now a moody preteen...!)

It is a very worrying time and I really feel for you, I well remember the angst, but you have a great majority in your favour and only a tiny chance that something could be wrong. I went on to have two more babies after that too and never received odds again like that with either of them. Try not to worry, good luck xx

My first ds was 1 in 86 risk and second ds was 1 in 26 (mostly due to low Papp-a). Both were fine. Just try to think that there is a 99.3% chance of baby being fine which are pretty good odds.

Inkpaperstars · 26/06/2020 22:25

My relative was given 1:12, was false alarm.

Inkpaperstars · 26/06/2020 22:26

Should add they had CVS after the 1:12.

Thank you so much everyone! I’m trying really hard not to worry about it, just hoping and praying that the NIPT gives me peace of mind and can continue to enjoy the pregnancy! Really appreciate hearing your stories to calm me down.

Just wanted to send positives vibes and reiterate the odds are in your favour

Hi peapod, I had nt of 3.6 and high risk of DS, 1 in 15, i had the NIPT and it came back negative for all three 13, 18 and 21 chromosomes luckly, because of this I didnt bother having any invasive test done but also because there was no markers on any scans and the heart is all perfect, also to mention the nt disappeared at 14 weeks, im now 31 weeks and still so far all is ok, I probably still have a 2% chance there could be some other chromosome abnormality there but now what will be will be and this site has made me 100% more confident reading alot of similar stories and all being normal babies x

Peapod15 · 02/07/2020 04:19

It’s so good to hear your positive stories! I’m most concerned at my hormone levels as HCG was 3.48 (2 is average) and PAPP A 0.4 (again 2 is average). Had Harmony test on Tuesday so just waiting and praying now! x

Got Harmony results back today and thankfully baby is low for all 3 trisomies. Thank you for all your kind messages, They were so comforting and positive to read when I was worrying away. X
