Baby measuring 8 days behind in early scan

Hi All,

I went for my harmony test yesterday at 10+2 and the scan beforehand (my first scan this pregnancy) dated baby at 9+1 so 8 days in the difference.

I have v.regulsr 29 days cycle and know when I ovulated (might be off a day or two). I got my bfp 9dpo so feel I couldnt be 9+1 as it's not physically possible.

They told me to wait a week and go back and if baby is measuring a week on then they will go ahead with harmony test. I feel really worried and anxious. This is my 3rd and never had an issue with dates before now.

Hope someone had similar experience x

Was there a heartbeat? Did everything look fine for that gestation?

I measured 11 days behind at my early scan then baby caught up by a week at my dating scan. I'm now 34+4 and she's doing fine.

Apparently measurements at early scans aren't the most accurate and babies can also have little growth spurts at different times. That's why the NHS won't date the pregnancy till over 11 weeks.

Good luck.

@sel2223 thank you for your message. Unfortunately didn't work out for me, baby still has a heartbeat but 1 in 2 chance of chromosome issue hence slow growth so waiting for results. Best of luck with your pregnancy and the next few weeks ahead xxx

@myhappyevernow ah, I'm so dreadfully sorry to hear that. I hope everything works out OK for you and you have lots of support around you.

@myhappyevernow I’m sorry to hear you had to go through this, the waiting is just awful. I just had my early scan and I’m measuring 9 days behind, I’m not sure what to do or think. Can I ask how your results went?

myhappyevernow · 01/08/2020 09:47

@Boredinthehouse12 My baby actually was diagnosed with T18, it was a long road and we had to tfmr on Thursday as there was no hope given to life outside the womb.

I think 99% of the time baby catches up on dates or maybe you ovulated late, everyone told me it was no cause for concern at the time so I think I just got unlucky. As it was my 3rd baby I knew my dates and I had never measured off dates before as I have v.regular cycle so I knew wasn't right....

Hi OP, I'm sorry about what you've gone through.

I'm in a similar position. I was measuring exactly a week behind at the early scans but like you, was told this is very common.
Baby's growing on target ever since but it did leave me worried as it was highly unlikely I fell pregnant later.

Anyway combined test and NIPT came back high risk for T18. Waiting for an amnio before making a decision.

I wanted to ask if you also confirmed the NIPT results with any diagnostic tests?

Elouera · 01/08/2020 14:36

So sorry OP. I had IVF in Mar, so knew my dates exactly. An early scan ay 7 weeks, showed a heartbeat, but baby was 1 week behind. I asked the question on here, and the vast majority who saw a HB, had caught up by the next scan and all was good.

In my case though, I MC'd at 10 weeks and days before I'd booked to have the NIPT. I did have genetic testing though on the foetus which showed only 1 chromone 21. My 1st pregnancy had T13 and I had TFMR with that one. I hope you are doing ok Flowers

Hi @Dia12 I'm so sorry to hear this, I know how hard it is to go through this worry. I measured exactly 8 days behind all the way until we tfmr at 16 weeks so it just stayed the same. Yes, I did also have a cvs done and results showed T18 and then the second round results of same test showed it was 100% full blown T18 and so we then made the difficult decision to have a medical termination. My scan also showed alot of fluid which steadily increased at each scan and by my last scan at 16 weeks she had hydrops. I waited until I had all results but unfortunately for me the harmony was correct. It is very difficult and I can only imagine the shock you must feel. I found the waiting for results extremely difficult.

@Elouera I am so sorry to hear that, it is extremely difficult and I honestly dont even know if it's quite hit me yet. Its not an easy road and I am sorry to hear you miscarriedqfter a tfmr, it must have been so hard. I would love to try again someday but the worry and fear is overwhelming right now as its obviously very raw still xx

Thanks for replying. I completely agree, the wait is so painful.
I've been waiting 2 weeks for my amniocentesis, which is on Monday. I'm anxious about what we may see on the scans. Haven't had a lot of support or information from the hospital either so have felt a bit left in darkness.
I'm not sure how long amnio results take but look forward to getting a final diagnosis and knowing what's what. Right now, I'm struggling to connect with my baby/pregnancy, want to be hopeful but dare not, scared senseless of how I'll get through a tfmr and the guilt that comes with it.
I'm sure you know exactly what I'm talking about.

Sending you all the best, hope you're able to recover from this physically and emotionally x
