How accurate are growth scans at 38 weeks?

I had growth scan at 38+1 they said EFW is 7lbs 4oz which is on 51st centile according to my chart.

Can anyone share their experiences on whether their scans were accurate? Being so late in pregnancy I'm not sure how reliable they are... Confused

You will get a very wide range of answers on this... slightly different but I had one at 41 weeks and it was bang on. Which was amazing!

I think it can really go either way tbh - they must think they’re at least an indicator or they wouldn’t bother. I had a private well-being scan at around 35 weeks and it was spot on, whereas a friend had 2 around her due date (as in 2 pregnancies) and it was spectacularly wrong both times - she was told normal sized babies and they both turned out to be about 11lbs.

My 37 weeks scan said 5lb 6oz I was induced 4 days later and she was 5lb 3oz.

At 38 weeks my ds was coming in at 9lb 13 oz. He was born 2 weeks and 5 days later at 9lb 9.5 oz.

I was told my DS would be around 9lbs at full term at my 38 week scan but he came out at 10lb 8oz three weeks later

Mine was very close predicted 6lb 7 and born at 40+4 at 6lb 10.5

2days prior to birth (so 39+1 if think?) was told 7lb 7 so went home and washed the newborn sleep suits. Born 8lb 15oz and like a sausage in a skin in his onesie. Was an ELCS tho so no hint of labour so baby was still full of fluid from not being squeezed in the birth canal.

Scan at 39 weeks said 7lb 6, born at 41 + 5 and weighed 9lb 9

Minkies13 · 06/04/2020 16:32

My scan at 38 weeks said she was going to be 8lbs. She came out 6

Wolfgirrl · 06/04/2020 21:43

My last growth scan was at 35+6, estimated 5lb12oz, born at 36+6 6lb5oz so spot on in my case! 7lb is a great weight for 38 weeks Smile

Pinksaffire · 06/04/2020 21:46

My scan at 38 weeks said I’d have a 9-10lb baby. She weighed 7lb 2oz at 39+3

Spanneroo · 06/04/2020 22:19

My twins at 38 weeks were estimated 6lb 12 and 6lb 11

They were born 3 days later at 6lb 10 (pretty accurate) and 4lb 14 (quite a discrepancy!)

Shiteteabags · 06/04/2020 22:24

Totally depends on who is scanning and how the baby is positioned.

It’s a bit cramped in there now!

Update:
Had my little boy at 40+8 (was induced and had EMCS) and he came out weighing 7lb1oz!
So in my case my growth scan wasn't very accurate (EFW 7lbs4oz at 38 weeks) x

Mine said 50th centile all the way through pregnancy. My son is 4 months and still 50th centile for everything. Bang on! Predicted weight was perfect too.
