Successful pregnancy after miscarriage due to triploidy, any experience please?

Hi, I had a miscarriage in December, the histology report showed that the cause was triploidy. The baby had extra chromosomes 13, 15, 16, 18, 21, 22 and also an extra x chromosome. I am now pregnant again, about 5 weeks, and although the report said there is low risk of it happening again I am obviously quite worried that it could. I'm just wondering if anyone else has went on to have a successful pregnancy after miscarrying or terminating due to triploidy? Did the same thing happen again? I am 37 although the consultant said it was nothing to due with my age.

Hey sorry I haven’t had first hand experience of loss due to triploidy. I cannot begin to imagine how hard this must be for you; not just the isolation that can come with such a rare diagnosis, but also facing a new pregnancy after such a traumatic experience.

I understand from the research that repeat incidents are extremely rare but totally understand that even knowing this cannot take away the anxiety this pregnancy must be bringing up for you. It takes such incredible strength to face pregnancy after loss and you are an inspiration for sharing your story.

Thinking of you and sending all the positive thoughts possible in your direction xx

Congratulations on your pregnancy! Even though you know that there is a very low, very, very chance of this happening again it is absolutely natural to worry. In answer to your question, I have looked after several women who have had a baby affected by triploidy and then gone one to have perfectly normal healthy babies.
Do you have someone at your hospital to discuss this with. What (if any) plans have you got for assessment of this baby?
Hope all goes well for you

@SarahD19 thank you for the positive thoughts :)

@Sussexmidwife when I spoke to the consultant she said that I would be brought in for a scan at around 6/7 weeks, I would be receiving extra care etc. She mentioned about me getting NIPT. I have a scan on 1st March, I'm taking baby steps so just hoping to see a heartbeat and to not measure behind, I was constantly measuring behind in my last pregnancy and apparently that can be one of the indicators of triploidy. The thing is even if the scan is fine it won't put my mind at ease, I know I won't feel relaxed until 20 week scan most likely.

I lost a baby due to triploidy at 15 weeks. I had genetic counseling and was told there was no increased risk. I have since had two DC and 3 mc, all much earlier.
In the first successful pregnancy I had closer monitoring and some extra scans but they were more for our reassurance.
Hope that's helpful, message if you want to chat more.

Helo, im just after some advice also. I have a 3 and a half year old boy perfectly healthy. Then i got pregnant with my second i lost her at 16+3 weeks. Got the post mortem results yesterday and it was due to triploidi she had the 68 chromosomes the triple of everything iff im understanding it properly. I have done some research on it. We r waiting now to hear from tbe genetic counciling. Has anyone been through this before and then had another healthy one? Im dying for another. I wont stop trying becouse these things apparently can be one offs? And it proves it becouse we have had our son! X

@Harley2016 I had the NIPT done, it came back negative for 13,18 and 21, so that was a huge relief. Of course the 20 week scan could pick something up, but for now I am just trying to enjoy my pregnancy knowing my baby doesn't have triploidy or the other 3 chromosome abnormalities. I was so worried it would happen again, but it really is very rare and we were just incredibly unlucky. Good luck trying x

Did you see a consultant? Thanks

Sorry to hear this. we were in your situation last year. During my NT scan they have found the problem eventually we were asked to terminate the pregnancy and we did. Post that while discussing with our Genetic doctor they mentioned "The triploidy is sporadic or random , no reason behind this " .

I think in your case also doc will suggest to terminate the pregnancy because that's the only solution.

Be strong , 99% triploidy will not reoccur.Take care of your wife'health and your mental health. This too shall pass

Thanks for the support.

Yes, the doctor told us to terminate but before that they wanted to confirm by doing some tests through needle and cutting the placenta.

Hope everything will get okay.
