Hi
I had my 12 week scan on the 4/12 and Sonographers said she had real concerns about our baby as the chin was showing smaller than it should at this gestation.
I had to go on Monday to fetal medicine where my bloods came back and I was high risk for Down syndrome 1:116
I then had to have a in-depth scan where everything was checked on. Baby as much as it could be at 13 weeks.
Consultant said baby is too small to say definitely whether it has a small chin but she is suspicious.
In the end I had a cvs test so to check if baby has chromosome problem ect.
First results came back yesterday and baby doesn’t have downs Syndrome, Edwards syndrome or Patau syndrome so that is reassuring.
But am still concerned what could be wrong with baby I’ve stupidly google Micrognathia and it doesn’t look good.
Is there anyone else who has gone through this?
Xx

Hi @Firsttimemum1022,

By our 20 week scan they decided that they weren’t concerned about his face anymore and we were given the ‘all clear’

he was born Dec 2021 and doesn’t have any visible issues. He doesn’t have a big chin, but it’s not anything noticeable.

We were fortunate that our situation appeared to be a scanning error rather than anything more sinister. We spent 8 weeks worrying that something could be wrong though and it was very very stressful.

what’s happened so far? Did they pick up an anomaly on a scan?

Yes at our 20 week scan her chin was seen to be very far back. Consultant was concerned. Need to go for an MRI to check the cleft palette etc. I'm in a state of despair.
So happy for you and your little one. Can I please see your ultrasound scan? Ours is a severe case so probably nothing like yours.

@Firsttimemum1022 my scan pictures are in the chain above. in some angles it looked receding, but in others it wasn’t soo bad.
they had concerns our little one could have a cleft palette too. I remember how sad and stressed I was.
our scan was on a Thursday and they couldn’t get us another appointment until the Monday and I just stayed home and cried all weekend.

did you want to share your pictures? Or if you want to chat about it, just let me know. I know the feeling of despair. The unknown was a killer for me x
