High Chance of Downs from Quad Test

Hi All,

We had a phone call from the Fetal Medicine Centre today to say that we have a 1 in 5 chance of our baby having Down syndrome. I feel so upset and my head is in a complete spin. We can not decide whether to have the Harmony Test or the Amnio done. I am 16 weeks so I'm worried that time is against us. We are very undecided as to what we would do if our child had Downs Syndrome. There is a part of me that desperately would want to keep our baby and another that doesn't know if we could manage (my husband has a cousin with Downs and so we have had some insight into what it can be like). How do you even begin to make a decision about these things. I'm so conflicted about everything. It's our DS birthday tomorrow and his party on Saturday. I dont know how I'm going to get through it all.

I'm not sure why I'm posting really as I know that the answer can only come from us but I just dont know what to do...

So sorry to hear that you’re in limbo Monty. Fingers crossed that you get the call soon. If it was me I think I’d want to go in as soon as I could rather than hang around at home Flowers for you

Just found this thread and I’m so sorry you’re going through this, and that’s distressing re the delay too. Will they operate tonight do you think?

I had a TFMR last year for downs. Our risk was 1 in 5 like you and the CVS confirmed it. It’s heartbreaking. One thing I’d say is that I don’t regret it at all and I am 100% sure it was the right decision. Because of this it was ok to move on from. I also remember feeling hugely better about five days after when my hormones settled down a bit.

The procedure itself is quick and the nurses were very kind. I hope you find the same.

@Nightmanagerfan thank you. Unfortunately for me though because I'm 18 weeks I have to go through labour. We have finally got a time of 8:15 this evening xx

Monty
I remember it well. But was absolutely right thing to do - though that doesn't make it easier or take away the heartbreak. I hope you aren't messed about any longer. ❤️💐❤️
