Nhs Down’s screening results. Worried!

Here are my results

1 in 390 chance of DS

And 1 in 32000 of the 2 others.

As states on the letter they ate both low results. Anything under 150 is considered high. So I should be happy? But people have results in the thousands mine is 390 which isn’t high to me?! They said the neck measurement was fine on the scan then I had the bloods..

I’m pretty worried. I wish they never mentioned the number to be honest if it just said low risk I wouldn’t focus on the number!

OP i think you're tying yourself in knots. Step away from google! Pregnancy is hard, there is so much you can't control and so much you don't and can't know. Do you find you're quite anxious generally? It might be worth discussing how anxious you are feeling with your midwife, not focusing on the results but on your mental wellbeing. It might be that they can suggest support to help you manage this anxiety so that it doesn't get worse as your pregnancy progresses/once baby is here. Did you ask to speak to the screening midwives or just your community midwife? They may be able to help also x

"@user1485276096 2.4 is low! Mine was 4.7mm

I think the extra test will give you peace of mind but truly I don't think you should worry x

@weathergirl thanks...got second part of harmony test on Tuesday. OP, it's so hard not to worry in pregnancy isn't it. Hope you get the reassurance you need soon

@HopeAndJoy16

To be honest no I don’t have anxiety for anything else. This is my first baby and first pregnancy.

What’s not helping is people are telling me how my numbers are so low compared to there’s and saying ‘i would be worried if I was you’ which is causing the anxiety and I think that’s fair enough..

I have a NIPT booked for tomorrow, so in a week I’ll know

OP you live in the same area as me, or at least at the same hospital. I've had similar results and everything was fine. Try not to worry.

@redsheep73

Thankyou, that’s the first time I’ve really heard that. People just keep telling me how my numbers are lower then there’s and adding anxiety

@hotpinkangel19

Oh really!!
I’m so angry they put the numbers on there instead of just low risk.

I agree! I think it causes more worry! Yes, we definitely used the same hospital!

ReganSomerset · 06/05/2019 15:42

I like knowing the numbers. If it was 1 in 154 so still low risk I would want to know so I could get a private test done as you are doing. I don't think our own medical information should be kept from us in case we worry, though I appreciate why you feel that way.

Cannyhandleit · 06/05/2019 15:56

My first pregnancy was horrific after being told we were 'high risk'(1:5) we had actually asked not to have the combined screening but they did it anyway. we chose no other testing as I didn't want the extra risk of miscarriage and nipt wasn't available at the time! We were given extra scans (7 total) to watch for heart abnormalities etc and I was on consultant lead care.
My baby was born with ds and I couldn't love him more but I look back on that pregnancy and feel very sad about how I never relaxed and embraced it. Please try not to worry too much and I hope you get the result you want from your nipt.

@regansomerset some hospitals don’t disclose the numbers on the letter just high or low. I’d of much preferred if my trust did that, it would save the worry and a £400 NIPT

@Cannyhandleit I wish I never had the bloods just went by the NT looked fine.
I didn’t realise they gave numbers and a ratio. If I knew I would have never had done it.
1:5 is a big chance, yeah I understand this would give worry.

I’m 390 and still think this has ruined my pregnancy in some ways due to the worry it’s causing me.

How are you getting on OP? Have you had any results back from the NIPT? X

Strugglingonagain · 17/05/2019 22:27

Mine was 1 in 199 and I was worried, DD is fine. Like you, I wish they just said low risk and didn't give values. You can pay for further tests, that needs to be your choice though x

user1485276096 · 17/05/2019 22:41

My NiPT is back, all fine. Now I can sleep

That's great news!! I had a similar (but different) issue after my first scan and had to wait for a second scan to get the all clear so I know how stressful the wait can be. Now you can relax and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy. I wish you all the best!
