Fluid and raised NT at 12 weeks

Had my 12 week scan today, and it wasn't great.

NT was 4.8, and the foetal medicine doctor found fluid in the baby's abdomen too.

They said 1 in 3 chance of chromosomal disorder, and 1 in 5 chance of structural (eg cardiac) abnormality if not.

Doctor and midwife seemed very pessimistic in their manner, even more perhaps than the stats would suggest. I have booked a Harmony test for tomorrow. Veering between holding onto optimism, and being filled with sadness and despair.

I just want my baby to be ok.

Have 2 DDs (7 and 2) so,having to put on a brave face. It's hard.

I’m sorry to hear that, it’s a tough time I know. I was in a similar boat this July with NT 6mm as well as hydrops. (I also have 2 children and had to try and keep everything running as normal) it was a shock and a living nightmare to be honest.

Have you been offered a CVS now? I was offered Harmony as my risk of Edwards or Patau’s came back 1:6. But I also had a CVS the next day as that is diagnostic. Unfortunately, as I had expected, my boy had Edwards Syndrome so I terminated at 13.3. Still feels a bit surreal really.
I really hope you get better news, just try to take each day at a time xx

Thank you Otto. I'm so sorry about your little boy.
Harmony isn't available on the NHS here, so we are paying for it. I was offered CVS, but have decided to go with Harmony due to the miscarriage risk with CVS. It wasn't the easiest decision, so hard to know what is right.
I really appreciate your reply.

Flowers I would suggest that you contact ARC charity as they can help support you. www.arc-uk.org I had this but the nuchal was much higher 10mm and we tfmr due to t21. Fingers crossed for you
