Strep B test in twin pregnancy

Has anyone had it?

I've ordered a Strep B home kit. Also did it with my singleton pregnancy, they advise you to do it after 35 weeks. I guess that's far too late with twins - do I just do it earlyish? 32-33 weeks? Does it even make sense to do it? The lab I ordered it from didn't answer my query... thanks!

Hopeful bump - anyone?

May be ask gp? Or mw? Or a company that sents these tests out?

Dolwar · 25/01/2018 23:00

It's testing you not the babies... why would it matter if there's twins or not?

Twodogsandahooch · 25/01/2018 23:02

Because twins tend to arrive earlier

Thanks all. Yes the idea is that you want it done as close to giving birth as possible but with twins that's such a wild guess. I was just wondering if anyone had been recommended when to do it by their MW or consultant. I'll ask my MW next time. The lab that does is said it's my choice - not very helpful!

That's a really good question.

I did this around 36 weeks I think. I can't quite remember but I had a planned section at 38.5 weeks and I didn't go into labour. I remember getting the results right before.

Good luck with your twins Smile

Was this with twins @mammmamia? That sounds good, I'm just worried that I'll go into labour before I to do the test, not see how I can avoid the risk without doing it a couple of times starting at maybe 32 weeks?

Yes with twins. It was weird though, I kind of had this feeling they wouldn't come early, and they didn't.
How many weeks are now?
I think that's a good idea you could do the test a few times. It's not expensive is it? I can't remember. And they just texted the results I think ( mine was 8 years ago though..)

Thanks @mammmamia. 25 weeks now, have lots of time, just trying to get organised. I might do it twice, it's £30 a pop I think, not the end of the world. I'm hoping for a vaginal birth - however I still have a few scans left and if twin 1 turns (currently head down) they'll want to do a CS which would mean not bothering with the test!

Yes - I can't remember why I bothered when I knew I was having a CS! Pregnancy logic!
