High Risk Downs, need some support

Hi ladies,

I am 14 weeks pregnant, first pregnancy, 28 years old. We were told our risk is 1 in 7 after the combined screening.

I felt ok at the time as I was relieved it wasn't Edward's or Pateu's syndromes but now I am worried. I feel like I was pressured into screening in the beginning and now I am overwhelmed at the results. I am considering NIPT as I don't want invasive tests but not sure I want to know. I will keep the baby whatever the result; it's just so scary.

I feel quite alone and am looking for some support as it feels like everyone else I know had the all clear at their scans and I am the only one feeling like this. It has taken some of the excitement away of feeling pregnant because of the worry.

I have read some of the previous posts but didn't know how to add to them so I started a new one.

Any advice would be great. Has anyone had the NIPT? Did it give a clear result?

Oh, I'm so sorry leighdinglady. There are no words... Flowers

Oh, that's terrible news. I am so so sorry.

Do you have someone you can talk it over with? Definitely worth calling ARC, if you haven't done already.

Sending you love and good wishes

Thank you. I might call Arc. We're being referred for a surgical termination. I can't bare the idea of actually giving birth. We're so shocked. Apparently our hospital only has about 4 cases a year out of 6,000 births.

So sorry to hear this leighdinglady, just read your post and the comments and saw your latest update.
Wishing you the best over the next few weeks, and all the support you need.

Booked the NIPT for tomorrow and will have results by next Thursday. I have a scan before then too so might find out more before the results. It just feels like every appointment is another situation I could hear bad news at; its making me anxious of every medial appt I have... Xmas Confused
How are you getting on leighdinglady?

I went for the NIPT test today. It took a couple of minutes and the staff were reassuring saying often the nigh NT has such a strong bearing on your combined results that they test blood and find it is negative. Fingers crossed for my results to be like that. I have to wait a week for my results so another bout of anxious waiting ahead...

Oh leighdinglady i just saw this update. I am so sorry to hear that. I hope ARC are helpful and you get lots of support from loved ones. It is so rare and thoroughly unfair I really feel for you and have been waiting with baited breath for your results. So sorry they're not what you hoped for. I wish you the best with the next few weeks.

I have just missed a call to give NIPT results. Am waiting for my hubby to come home to hear results together. So scary and tense. I'm trying to take my mind off it but had a poor night's sleep worrying so tricky. Fingers crossed will be ok.
