Any one else a carrier for a genetic condition?

I carry a gene for a genetic condition and so does my partner. We have a 1 in 4 chance of each pregnancy being affected.

Our oldest son has this condition and is severely disabled because of it.

Our youngest son is free from the condition.

I'm pregnant again and just had my CVS test today, I'm really worrying about the results now as we have decided not to continue withe pregnancy if the results are affected which honestly isn't what I want to do, but I no its for the best.

Anyone else been or in the same situation?

Sorry to hear about this. Me and my husband are in thr same situation. We are both carriers of Cystic Fibrosis . I've ended a pegnancy because the baby was ill and in a very advanced stage of the disease.We are going to try again and just hope this will not happend again. It's tough, but hope and God will guide us. Big hugs and finger crossed for a good result.

I have a genetic condition, not as severe as CF, but something I would have preferred to have not passed on to my children. As I understand it, my affected children will be able to have embryo selective IVF, if they wish. Is that not an option for you?

Me and my hubby are carriers of a genetic condition which we only found out about after our 2nd child. Our first child is affected.

Hi, I've never been in exactly the same situation as you, but I know due to the birth of my second child that XH and I carry a genetic condition. That child was born at the 'good' end of the spectrum of possibilities.
I also know that to have another child with the condition would have been extremely challenging. I didn't end up in the situation, but know that if I had had, in further pregnancies I would have wanted genetic testing.
It's a very individual thing, and I guess to a degree depends on the condition.
It's very tough, but I think you have to do what you think is right for your current family, and most of all for you.
Sorry not to be more definitive.
I sincerely hope that you get good news from the cvs.

Thanks for your replies. The condition is very severe, my son can't walk or sit up and he is on a machine to help him breath etc. I could have PGD but not on the NHS as I already have 1 healthy child and now I'm a carer for my oldest son I couldn't afford it.

Not been in the same situation but have had a CVS and ultimately a TFMR so I know some of the stress and the excruciating wait. I hope the results are quick and are good news, hopefully with a 3 in 4 chance it will be ok x

Thank you everyone for your replies. I found out yesterday that our baby is free from the condition, a huge weight off my shoulders, we feel very lucky and I'm happy to say I won't ever have to go through this again. The wait was torture x
