High nuchal translucency at my 12 week scan 😥

Hi everyone I'm new on here and looking for support advice and just other people stories! I went for my 12 week scan yesterday 12+3, it was going well lovely to see the baby moving and it's heartbeat, but then we was told the NT test was higher than normal coming in at 4.4mm, I feel like my whole world has changed I was taking into a quiet room and spoken to be a midwife, I was then given another scan by a doctor which felt like it took forever as I was crying the whole time, anyway that scan came back as the baby body, organs and heart look perfectly fine it's the nuchal translucency on the baby's neck that is causing a problem. I've got to go back in two days time for amino then I'll have to wait another two days to get the results from that. I'm really not coping very well with this at all the stress and worry is unreal I have a healthy little boy already I just can't understand it I'm only young myself.. Has anyone been in this situation? Or has any advise me for? 😢😢

I haven't been in your position but I just wanted to offer some love and support for you. Hopefully they're just being over cautious and everything will be fine. I will be thinking of you xxx big hugs and chin up xxx

I've been on Google constantly and I've found a lot of stories with happy endings but it's the wait to see if it's a chromosome defect 😣 I've to be scanned every week I'm praying by my next scan the fluid has decreased. Have they told u what the next step would be if it comes up not a chromosome problem? Everything I was told went in one ear and out the other 😣

A lot of people find arc charity very helpful - even when all you can do on phone is cry... the wait is terrible, I had 1:7 risk with DS1 (due to different markers), and could not even look at the screen during CVS. We were incredibly lycky that he did not have any abnormalities in any other tests, and now is a healthy 3 year old.
Lots of handholding, and try to get as much support as you can...

I'd suggest looking at local options for Harmony or similar testing. You could have it straight away and as its a blood test it doesn't carry the risks of amnio. In our area it's only available privately but paying a few hundred pounds will get you an answer regarding trisomies quickly

I got harmony test yesterday! 275£ but worth every penny to find out! The doctor has advised me to go ahead with amnio in 2 weeks as well though because harmony only tests for certain ones. I'm definitely feeling more hopeful reading so many happy endings on here and other sites!

I had this worry with DC3 and in those days the wait for amnio results was four weeks. It seemed an eternity. But the results came back confirming no abnormality and the baby in question is now a very bright, healthy 23 year old.

I've been told that if the harmony test results come back OK then I can pretty much rule out any chromosome defects. The wait is torture but I'm staying positive:)

I'm so sorry you are both in this position.

I had a tfmr at 22 weeks, our dd2 had T18. Her issue was picked up much later though.

Arc are brilliant for helping trough the waiting time. A harmony will give you an almost certain screen for T13, T18 and T21. It cannot rule out other, less common trisomies that can be linked to high nt screens.

The amnio/cvs will give you a full screen, it picks up all chromosomal issues.

I would really advise calling or emailing arc. They are so compassionate and helpful.

Be kind to yourselves in the wait. It's a really tough time

Unfortunately for me my outcome was the worst possible and my baby boy was delivered at 14+3 on Sunday sleeping. The high nuchal fold had been due to Edwards syndrome that the harmony test and cvs confirmed :( he was beautiful and just too precious for this world.

Fly high baby boy mummy loves you xxx
