How long did your CVS results take to come back?

Hi all,

I had a CVS last Monday (1:20 risk of Downs) and was told that I would hear back within 2-3 working days. However I've heard nothing at all!

I made a load of calls yesterday afternoon and only got answering machines (left messages where it seemed appropriate) and did the same this morning just to check, with the same result (didn't leave messages). The level of care I've received so far has been so very brilliant, and so fast (not to mention kind and compassionate), that I am really surprised by this.

I rather dread the idea that they might have to do it again, although they were happy at the time that they had a sufficient sample. I think I'd probably go for amnio next time, seeing as I'll be 16 weeks in a matter of days.

Have any of you had a similar experience?

Aw, thank you Kitty!

Oh, you poor thing - the waiting is hideous!

We heard within the promised 2-3 days - in fact 48 hours after the test.
These were the immediate results (karyotype), further culturing took 2-3 weeks if I remember correctly.

I don't think you'll be able to get anywhere, what with it being the weekend. How awful for you.

I've not solutions, but offer Cake

StAlphonsosPancakeBreakfast · 16/05/2015 19:37

Oh, thank you so much. It's been tough, I won't lie - I've been mentally girding my loins (girding my mental loins?!) every morning since Wednesday, and then nothing. DP is away now as well, which makes it harder.

If anything the weekend has been easier than the weekdays, because at least I know I won't hear anything till Monday.

I'm not sure where you had yours done (we were at Kings) but when we were waiting for our amnio results they told us they would call after 5. Usually between 5-7 when the screening midwives have finished with appointments.

Sorry, should have remembered that earlier, funny the things you forget so quickly but you have reminded me of that horrid sick feeling I had all day while waiting until someone told me this.

Hobbes8 · 16/05/2015 19:44

I think I had mine on the Wednesday and heard the following Monday. It was an anxious weekend! I hope you get good news soon x

MissRainbowBrite · 16/05/2015 19:47

Ours were almost the same as Hobbes, had the CVS on the Wednesday then got initial results the following Tuesday. So 3-4 working days.
Fingers crossed for you.

Argh, it does sound a bit like something's gone a bit awry in the whole process, doesn't it?

Keep yourself deliberately distracted to avoid going round the bend - the result will be the same whether you hear now or next week Wink. I know you know that, but just keep repeating ad infinitum.

I should also have said my CVSs x3 (for 3 pregnancies) were done 10+ years ago in Scotland, so my waiting times may well not be at all relevant to you, sorry Blush

Fwiw, my Down's risk was 1:18 and I have a 1:4 risk for other trisomies (due to a genetic problem I carry, nothing to do with maternal age), so every pregnancy we went for was a leap of faith. 4 healthy DCs later I can honestly say it was worth all the worry and procedures and all the stuff that went wrong.

Fingers crossed for you too Smile

So sorry you're having to wait. We had the CVS on a Wednesday afternoon and the fast results were back at 6pm on the Friday. I hope you get your results on Monday and that it's good news Flowers

StAlphonsosPancakeBreakfast · 16/05/2015 21:24

Thank you all so much. I have been trying to keep distracted, yes. I tried to work today but wasn't terribly productive - so this evening it's all about cake and the Alan Partridge film currently on tv. Smile

Yep, Cake and crap TV sounds about right to me Grin

StAlphonsosPancakeBreakfast · 17/05/2015 17:47

Well today I have taken to my bed to watch reruns of Saturday Kitchen, which I think takes the crap TV biscuit! Grin

My DP has been so great, it's helped a lot. He texted me this morning to say he'd still rather be here than in the three and a half years wishing I was pregnant, and he was holding onto that. And I have to too. Hopefully I'll hear something tomorrow.

Results are back - all clear! I was so relieved I forgot to ask why they were delayed. Grin Thank you so much for the hand-holding.

Aw, I am delighted for you Smile
I remember the feeling of overwhelming relief so well.
Hope the rest of your pregnancy is worry free!

StAlphonsosPancakeBreakfast · 18/05/2015 09:30

Thanks so so much! It's a good feeling, all the same. And we're so looking forward to telling our families this evening. Grin

Fantastic news! So pleased for you. In the absence of Wine you should have more Cake!
