Possible bad news at scan?

Hi all

Sorry to put a sad post on at this time of morning :-(

Had my 20 week scan about 3 weeks ago and had to go back as they couldn't measure the spine properly.

I went back yesterday for a repeat scan and I have now been referred to the consultant as the spine appears to widen at one end. They are going to get in touch today and either the consultant will want to rescan me or send me to the big hospital to see the specialist.

I don't really know what I'm asking people to reply just think I want to write it down so I can tell someone as I don't want to tell anyone in real life until I know for definite.

The worst case is spinia bifida, best case is the sonographer is wrong. I'm now beating myself up incase I've done something wrong.

I'm hoping to God nothing is wrong and I have my other 2 dc to worry about. Has anyone had this happen and what was the outcome both good and bad?

I'm so sorry about your horrible situation. I had a similar situation which was absolutely horrendous. I have no idea if spina bifida can appear as a widening of the spine but our baby had spina bifida. There was no widdening, it was a gap low down on the baby's back.
Sadly we terminated the pregnancy and it was the worst experience of my life. But for me it was the right one as our baby would have faced so many struggles.
That said you may find the condition your baby has is very mild, or not there at all.
I want to stress that this is NOT your fault and you've done nothing wrong. You are not to blame. Sometimes shit things happen and it makes no sense.
