Advice on PGD and genetic counselling.

I have posted this in conception too before I saw this topic..

I was just wondering if anyone has ever had gender selection for medical reasons ? My partner has an inherited x chromosome disease and whilst he could not pass it on to a boy, he may well to a female. Considering the heartbreak this has caused to us already I would like to avoid the risk of passing the gene on and so would like to try and have a boy. I know this is a controversial issue, I would really have no preference otherwise. I believe we could also try to have embryo diagnosis to choose embryos which don’t have that gene, regardless of gender.

I am just wondering if anyone has any experience of PGD and has any advice about it, costs etc? I’m not finding much online and we are still waiting for our genetic counselling appointment.

Thank you.

Yes! This is the forum you need: www.fertilityfriends.co.uk/forum/index.php?board=534.0

I have a balanced translocation and have had pgd three times. We had ours at guys, though there are a number of places outside London - the hfea website has a list. If neither of you have any living children, then you have a good chance of getting up to three rounds on the nhs. You normally need a referral from your nhs genetic counsellor to the clinic. Good luck!

Thank you so much! Did the pgd work for you?
