1 in 75 chance of downs wrong to be positve?

Hi, I posted on here about two weeks ago. I had a nt result of 5mm at my 10 week scan. I went for a follow up scan at 13+4 and got a reading of 3.4mm which I was told was just under the normal limit of 3.5mm.
I thought this was still quite high but the specialist didnt want to see me.
The sonographer said the baby had a strong heartbeat and seemed to be developing normally, which put me at ease a little.
I had a phone call yesterday from the hospital with my combined results. I got 1 in 75 chance of downs, which is better than I expected. She didnt give exact blood results but did say one was spot on and the other was .5 below normal.
I feel quite positve about these results even though I know alot of women would be terrified. Is this just me kidding myself ?
We've discussed having an amino but the risks of miscarriage are the same percentage risk as my baby having downs so we've chosen to wait and see how the20 week scan goes.
Has anyone had similar experiences?

I came back high risk from bloods and had an appointment to discuss the actual figure/next steps.

Dh & I decided that the (arbitrary) figure where we would be happy to just wait and see was 1:50, so 1:75 wouldn't have felt high risk to me.

As it was, it was in the 20s and we had an amnio (clear).

That sounds like a good result to me - I would feel positive too

You have a 74 in 75 chance that the baby doesn't have downs - so of course you are right to be positive.

We had much shorter odds and were quite relaxed! I think it really depends on how you feel about ' being the one' We knew we would carry on with the pregnancy whatever, so didn't go for further testing with ds1 and were not filled with anxiety. However, I completely understand people who have the opposite view/feelings.

Also, we had a 'markers ' scan at 20 weeks with ds1 , where they looked for soft markers - not conclusive by any means, but gives you a bit more of an indicator.

We had worse odds too. Didn't do the amino - he would have been perfect either way. As it turns out, he is now 11 - and did not have Down's syndrome. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy

I had 1 in 85 (scan was fine but high hgc levels affected the result). We decided on a Harmony test as I didn't want to risk a miscarriage, having had a previous miscarriage. Was reassured at the scan and the blood were sent off and came back 1:10000 which is the result they give you. It was worth it for peace of mind though horrible waiting over Christmas for the results.

Hi I has my UT and blood test on 29 of July 2020, I have got my result saying Chance of my baby having DS is 1 in 75. Can some one post positive about it. We are planning for having Amniocentesis, but are worried a lot. Its horrifying for both of us. Please send some positive news.

Hi @ASFB, it must have been a huge shock to have the 1 in 75 result, but please don’t panic. Either way, everything will be ok, with or without the presence of that extra chromosome.

I had a post-natal diagnosis of my daughter. It was completely unexpected (we’d been given a 1 in 1900 chance in the combined test) and it felt like our world had crashed down on us. The consultant reeled our a list of potential medical problems - heart and bowel issues etc - but as it turns out my daughter has none of those and is now a very healthy nearly 5 year old! She learnt to crawl at 14 months, walked at just approaching 3 and - thanks in part to the speech therapy she has been having through a local charity called Sparkles - her spoken language is improving all the time, along with her impressive range of Makaton signs. We couldn’t be prouder of her and she starts mainstream reception this September. She is also a brilliant big sister to her two year old sister and they are thick as thieves together! I know she has had a fairly easy ride in terms of medical complaints, but many of her little friends at Sparkles had heart defects - which obviously was really scary for their parents at the time, but they all recovered from m their surgeries really well and are now doing brilliantly. During lockdown we have seen so many first steps, impressive counting, you name it, amongst our little group.

And ‘Don’t Be Sorry’ is a great blog on Facebook about a fab 8 year old boy with DS called Oscar - well worth a read, as is ‘I am River’ about a 5 year old living in Tanzania.
