8,23 MoM B-hcg at combined test!!

I had this extremly high value at my combined test for screening trisomies.. I surfed the internet and could find just a few cases of such a high value..I am 41 and my risk for downs raised from1:50 to 1:26. Scan was ok nt ok, nasal bone present and ppp-a ok...In my previous pregnancies bhcg was 4.3 MoM and 2.34 (this sadly ended in a tfmr for other issues).
I wonder if anybody got such a high value??
I'm both worried for downs even if I don't think I could terminate again and already had a raw with dp aboit that and for other problems that may arise due to such a high level..
I am waiting for harmony tests in 2 weeks..does anyone know anything? I read with a MoM over 8 there is a 80% risk of a SGA baby..
On the top of it I also had a cmv infection which luckly should have been contracted some months before pregnancy but I still will have a late amnyo to check things..

Mine was 5.43MoM. I'm only 22 weeks now but so far so good (clear cardiac/anatomy scans, and a clear Harmony despite a 1 in 5 result)

The Fetal Medicine Centre where I had my testing was not bothered by the high result - they said there is "some" evidence linking high bHCG with possible placenta issues but it is very unusual. Nevertheless they recommended a third trimester growth scan just to be sure.

At my anatomy scan they spotted a place on my placenta where I would have bled in the past, and they said it was very possible that was the cause of my high bHCG. Did you have bleeding?

Thank You very much for your reply, I'm glad to hear about the opinion of the FMC..I visited their website yesterday to look for some information..
I didn't have any bleeding, I wonder if it could be internal and undetected..I will ask my gynae.. I wish you a smooth and uneventful pregnancy!

It's possible it might be! I always spot and bleed in pregnancy and this one was no different and it stopped by 8 or so weeks. I had Harmony at 10 weeks, and I always assumed the bleeding had to be very recent, and I'd had none around then. So perhaps if I did have a tiny abruption, it reabsorbed like you say?

It may be something to ask to look for at your next scan - might put your mind at rest if something is found. And even if it's not, as I said the FMC did not seem hugely concerned with 5.43.. and you'd think anything over 3MoM or so would be a bit worrying.

Hiya sorry for gatecrashing..., interested in the bleeding causing high hcg levels as can't find much info on it. I, received a call from midwife today as my high hcg levels mean my combined results are 1:85. My scan and other hormone test were in the normal range. She was very kind and I have plumped for a Harmony test but have to wait two weeks for the test as it's Christmas and we are away etc.

I did have pretty big bleed around 8/9week mark..to the extent that I was sure it was a miscarriage (previous experience). I was asked during the scan about any spotting- well you would not have called this spotting! But no one has seemed overly concerned with it. So am wondering -I guess pinning my hopes on- it being responsible for the high hcg in bloods. Can anyone point to any more info on this as am struggling to find any links etc. Thank you in advance.

There are a few research papers out there, and the FMC talk about it as if it is a fact, but off the top of my head I don't have the exact research papers to hand I'm afraid! I looked them up several years ago now Smile But the information is out there.

Thanks Crispy. Results came back yesterday (exactly ten days after test) with good news. All low risk 1:10000. Very very relieved.

My combined test has just came back and it’s hcgb mom is 8.4 so your good news stories have given me hope xx
