D&C at St Mary's (London) or private? Please help

Dear all. Yesterday we received the results of our CVS which showed us that the baby has T21 (Down Syndrome) and we decided to terminate the pregnancy. I am currently 12 weeks and 2 days.

Last year I had a termination at 20 weeks due to Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome and it was performed at St Mary's Hospital in London and I was really really happy with the care I received.

However, I heard that D&C can have some risks so I would really appreciate your feedback/comments if you had/or know someone who had D&C performed at St Mary's in Paddington. I am also considering going private so any suggestions for doctors would also be highly appreciated.

Thank you so much

hi daphne i have spoken to you on the other thread. i was fourteen weeks at my second termination (for same reasons as yours). had a previous c section so they wouldn't do d &C so i had a medical termination (giving birth) I was devastated but looking back it was the best thing for me. I cried all the way through but hwne I had him I could see the hydrops and so have never had any doubts about the diagnosis. I also really felt that the trauma of birth gave me a proper good bye to the pregnancy and was not somthing being 'done' to me but something I was able to control, i'm not sure how i would have felt going to sleep pregnant and waking up not pregnant.

I just wanted to share my experience. I have felt a lot less trauma following the termination than some others who had surgical ones I'm sure that's because I had a lot of emotions during the birth. I am also retrospectively happier that I had a medical termination because of ashermans and risks with scarring of the womb. having said all that, at the time I was begging for surgical so i can see why it would be preferable for some. I don't know about st marys sorry.
x

Hi Manitz. Thank you for sharing your experience. I had given birth at my previous termination at 20 weeks so I totally understand your point about saying a proper good bye to the pregnancy.
I will speak to my consultant tomorrow morning to discuss the options. I want to go through this asap and put a closure

yeah i can understand that. I went in to discuss termination whilst waiting for the cvs results as they were mainly irrelevant. they rushed them through because they wanted to give me as much information as possible. I found it much less traumatic than the first time as I knew how the highs and lows afterwards would affect me though I had 3 years between terminations. Hope you get answers that help you make a decision tomorrow. BTW I have various friends who have had d&C for missed miscarriages as well as both my sister in laws on several occassions. They usually pass without problems.
