nuchal fold worries after todays scan...

I have just come back from my 12 week scan. All was fine which was a real relief but the nuchal measurement was 2.9mm (I'm 12+4). With ds it measured 1.3mm and I'm concerned that this is above normal.

Anyone have any experiences of this or words of wisdom??

What did the scanner/ person assessing the scan say?
I think 2.9 is within normal range but someone more knowledgeable will come soon I am sure.

They said up to 3.5mm is the within the 'normal' range. But then I made the mistake of looking online and there's mixed information. So now I'm stressing!

Did you also have a blood test to give you a combined risk result?

Mine was 2.9 mm as well tho my bloods pushed my odds up to 1/20 but I am nearly 41. Thinkmitsmthe upper end of normal but still within normalmrange. My dd was 1.6 mm so obviously differs per baby. Had an amnio but came back normal. I had low pappa which upped my odds.

yes thats within the normal range. anything over 3.5 is a cause for concern. there's so many other factors they take into account along with the measurement. and it's only a risk factor it isn't a definite yes or no!

Best to wait until you have combined results from blood test as well as the measurement alone can be misleading. I think its rare that a 2.9mm measurement on its own would indicate a problem - I think when women get measurements of 7 or 8mm which you do hear about on these threads, it's pretty clear something is wrong.

PS even if your risk factor comes back 'high', please take heart in the fact that so many people who go on to have CVS or amnio get a negative result in the end. The odds are still very much on your side even at 1/50.

How are you op? Not too stressed I hope.

That's on the higher side of the average, but over 3.5mm is the cut off for high here.

If it's any comfort DS was 4.6mm - seriously off the scale high. He is chromosonally normal and no other problems picked up yet - he is 9 mo.

Thanks for all your advice and kind words. Yes I have been stressing about it still, but fortunately I had a terrible day at work which took my mind off things. I spoke to the midwife, she said she would call me with results tmr/fri. SO just trying to keep positive. x
