Local anaesthetic safe in pregnancy?

I just had a cvs and it didn't occur to me til afterwards to ask if local anesthetics are definitely safe in pregnancy. Being a total worrier was up in the night last night googling and found article saying they were linked to learning disabilities. Although only found one site saying this and it looked like the research was done ages ago. I know they are not going to use anything unless absolutely safe, but still can't help feeling a but concerned. Did anyone ever ask their consultant for the full info on it? Looking back it seems strange it's not in the info sheet they hand out.

I had a local and I am a worrier of the worst sort so asked and they said as far as they know it's fine. I also had a couple of EMLA patches for arterial blood gases.
