Just found out I have tested positive for group b strep!

I have just recieved my test results via text message on a Sunday afternoon! Eak. Have just read some stuff on the internet. Does anyone have any experience of this and how did your labour go?

I was really hoping for staying at home until I absoultely had to go to hosp (they scare me!) Have a water birth and then come home ASAP.

I am guessing none of this is possible now.

I did the test hoping it would give me peace of mind everything was fine.

You still have all options, you need to research it more.
Eg: homebirth when GBS+.

hi ive had my posotive results text this morning and im shocked i just wanted peace of mind too, this is my 3rd so i could of had it before and never knew about it. Ive rang the hospital where im due to go in, she was v laid back about it, she said you have a "bag" of anti biotics through a drip as soon as you go in and every 4 hours until you deliver, but i dont think you are permemantly hooked to a drip, but she said water birth and bath possibly out of question. This is what upsets me the most i NEED to be in water!! and ive never even had a drip in, i wanted a v mobile and wet birth!
she said if they dont get enough AB into you 4 hours before delivery then they observe the baby for 24 hours and poss put this on a drip of AB for 24-48 hours, she said this is the worst case scenario.

Im gutted but at least i cant be unknowingly putting the baby at risk, ive read some really sad stories of people who did not know they were carrying it and the baby picked it up.
every midwife i talk to gives a slightly different story of what happens so i might go see the doc tomorrow and see if they will also test again no NHS?

My sister tested positive and had baby in hospital with antibiotics and had no issues at all. I'm so sorry that it throws your plans out - but a drip really shouldn't hurt. i hope it goes ok....

Check out the option of Hibiclense vaginal cleansing during the labor process and ask your midwife it's something that would be available.

Also really cut out sugar, white and processed foods, and minimal dairy as these types of sugars are what cause the bacteria to thrive as they are processed through your system. Eat high protein, colourful veg, and whole grains to boost your immune system to fight it off on it's own.

I had it with my second Dc. I went into hospital within a few hours of contractions starting and was given IV ab's twice during labour. Dd was born in a birthing pool and everything was fine.

Btw, it's not a drip, it's straight in, so that in itself, does not prevent you having the labour and delivery (hopefully) you want, albeit in hospital.

Actually suggests that water birth might help lower the risk of GBS infections as "washes out".

Wish the other midwives knew this!

Yes, I had trouble convincing my MW that I was actually allowed to get into the pool too...she contacted my consultant I think whom I'd already asked about it all as I really was going to get my water birth!
