I feel totally pathetic but went to the hospital today to have CVS but didn't have it as I think they could tell I was really nervous and told me to have a think about whether I really wanted the test. They said I can ring back and re-book.

Can anyone reassure? It's making me really scared...I do want the test.

Hi house

i had it, and, like you, was terrified! I hate needles. They will be kind and gentle with you - nervous or not - and will go at your pace, so dont worry about being rushed.

I cant say i didnt feel anything - although they numb your skin b4 hand, but one sharp little pain and that was all. They dont take long once the needle is insterted at all. Seconds. I was still wincing waiting for a great pain and it was already all over! Take a companion to hold your hand. Relax, and if you dont want to look at the screen - dont. The thoughts of it is worse than the reality.

If i can do it you can. Good luck Smilexxxxx

house what misty said, I had a CVS last week and whilst it was uncomfortable it wasnt painful and was over very quickly. My doctor was lovely and reassuring. I had my eyes screwed up tight and was gripping DPs hand for dear life but he talked me through every step of the way. I certaibnly wouldnt want it to be a regular occurence but felt immense relief when it was over that i had done as much as I possibly could to get certainty in an uncertain situation. Good luck!

Thanks for your messages. I think I too will have eyes shut tight. I just hope I can do it. Booked for Friday. xx

you can do it ....imagine us all holding your hand tight if it helps .....and let us know how you got on. I should have said that after 1:20 odds (1:4 on bloods alone) my baby girl is all fine :-)

I will think of you all who have been here before. Thank you, will let you know xx

I did the test. Thanks for your support. It really helped. It wasn't painful, just felt weird and uncomfortable and I told them I was nervous so they talked a lot throughout which actually helped. Closing eyes, clutching partner's hand tightly and thinking that I need to do this test and I can do it helped also. now it's the results...

any results house? been thinking of you

houseoffallenwomen · 18/05/2011 06:30

Not yet. Thanks for thoughts. Not sleeping well, my 2year old is unwell and we've been up since 3.30! Waiting is dreadful isn't it? My odds are 1:60 based on low Papp-a and my age 37.

completely ....the waiting is the worst part. Still thinking of you and hoping for good news ......its still 59/60 (which as i well know is not what you hear when you're in the situation)

Just got a call from the hospital. It was good news, all clear. Very relieved. They must be used to people crying down the phone to them. They want to keep an eye on the low Papp-a and I have an extra scan at the fetal medicine unit to check blood flow between placenta and baby. They have also put me on aspirin - to thin the blood.
Thanks so much for your support. I have been reading these threads like mad and they help a lot.
I feel like a different person having learnt about all these things and what people go through. First time round I was totally unaware and took it all for granted. Never again. xx

oh my goodness, blame the hormones but i just burst into tears. SO SO SO happy for you, know exactly what that moment feels like when the call comes. Heres to a happy, easy rest of pregnancy (have to say since my CVS I've felt great having had a bloody awful first 13 weeks) and some Nov (?) early Christmas presents. Take it easy and congrats again. Awesome news!

So glad to hear everything's turned out to be ok. Hope you can relax now and good luck with the rest of your pregnancy.

Thank you so much for your good wishes. It is such a massive comfort to get kind supportive messages when you can't talk to anyone in real life. Thanks for taking the time. xx
