fetal cardiac scan

I'm off to have the scan tomorrow at John Radcliffe in Oxford, after getting the all clear for DS from CVS...

am starting to get very nervous - haven't had my full CVS results back yet, assume bank holidays are holding them up, so am worrying I'll find out something scary tomorrow - but on the other hand, I've been much more relaxed this time round, than I was before the CVS. Bizarrely this now worries me that I'm not preparing myself for potentially bad news which would then hit me harder iykwim?

I'm rambling a bit really! I'll be 16+2 tomorrow - am hoping this will be far enough along to give us a definitive result. Will they tell me the sex even though that's obviously not what they're looking for? Would love to find out.

You were all so lovely and supportive when I got my 1 in 56 risk of DS, so just wanted to post here again with the next stage - please keep your fingers crossed for me x

Hi overreaction, first off I'm glad you got the initial all clear from your CVS. Why are you having the cardiac scan? Is there a suspected problem or a definite one?

There are a whole range of heart problems and many of them have very good prognoses. There are lots of good websites out there to give you information (I can't link from a phone) but I think Little Hearts and British Heart Foundation were two I looked at and I'd suggest doing a bit of research before the scan, all though they will explain it all to you after the scan.

Good luck though.

hi i had one at 17 weeks and they could see fine. i think sexing would depend on how human the consultant is! i had to fight for my scans so i didn't want to undermine the worry I'd been emphasising to get there iyswim.

Hi I had a cardioscan at the JR hospital and I found them wonderful - mine was also around the same gestation as you and she was able to be quite confident, although I would have gone back about 4 weeks later for another scan as by 20 weeks the heart has obviously developed a whole lot more. Re the sex, i didn't ask as I knew that my amnio would give me that result. Good luck and I hope all is fine today xx

Thanks all, just back and it's all fine so far, phew! saw the four chambers working away and a very wriggly baby. So the doc is pretty confident that there's no serious issues but we go back in 5 weeks for another look. On sex, yes I'm being very impatient not to wait for full cvs results but the doc was lovely about it and had a good look. We're all fairly sure we saw testicles but she's told us not buy blue stuff yet just in case!

Kat, I had to have the scan because we had a high nt reading of 6.1 mm so they warned us it was downs and/or heart problems - fingers crossed it was just a funny reading.

Also really liked them at Jr, normally at wexham who have also been great x
