Can anyone please explain what happens with an early termination?

What happens when you approach the GP and what procedures are available? What do each procedure involve?

Sorry for all the question but I am worried and very desperate for advice

Dizzy can you tell us how many weeks you are - the procedures differ depending on what stage of pregnancy you're at.

If it is early, there is a 2 pill method that basically gives you one pill one night, one pill the next and you miscarry the pregnancy, so cramping and heavier than period bleeding for a week or so. I had this and it was not as bad as I expected physically.

hi, I had one at 13 weeks. a pill then into hospital for delivery with a pessary for induction. other people have had surgical terminations with general aneasthetic.

Hi, I didn't have my termination in the UK so I can't advise about approaching the GP.

I had the same method as flyingspaghettimonster - I was about 8 weeks pregnant - it took about 24hrs of cramping & bleeding (not very much blood - less than a period), I did have some D&V as well. By the next day I felt physically fine & was up & about.

You can have a medical abortion (the 2 pills) up until 9 weeks. After that it's a different procedure.

I think counselling (not sure if it's offered as standard) is a very good idea before you make the decision.

I've never been unlucky enough to need one but I know a few people who have. They all regret it deeply! Think about it very carefully as there is no going back afterwards. Make sure you think about how you will feel about it not just this year but in 5/10/20 years time. This is a long term decision.

Well, in balance to PlopPlopPing's post, continuing a pregnancy is a long term decision too. I always felt my termination was the right thing to do, but for the first year or so I felt sad about it as well. Now, 6 years down the line, I feel simply relief that I was able to make that decision. No regrets.
