Advice please: Bloods poor, NT fine

Any help welcome please. I was told by the screening co-ordinator that my blood test was problematic, bringing me into the high risk group, but the nuchal fold was 1mm! I have been offered cvs, because of this, and also because I am older mum (39).
Anyone have any idea of how important the bloods are?? I don't get it if the NT was fine.

Doesn't it feel awful being old, in my case at 37 now 38? All could and probably will still be fine. Depends on what you will do with the info. e.g Having had misscarriage, this baby was too precious to risk cvs no matter it was only a small extra risk. Would you and ur DH/family accept a child with downs? Can you go thro' an abortion?

The results you get are only statistics. You could get a low risk result and consider yourself 'clear' but still go on to have an 'abnormality' (hate that word applied to babies and children but..)

You and I know that at 39/38 our years of fertility are rapidly dwindling.

I'm only another mum, you should def talk this thro with ur midwife or GP and if they're not helpful/don't have time to talk, keep going till you have your decision. Best of luck whatever.

Bloods terrible (at 33), nuchal fold large, beautiful healthy baby boy! Your age will have made the odds on your blood test high anyway, see if there is a specialist midwife you can talk with about the exact results. I had very high HCG and very low AFP which gave me high odds of downs in my baby. I couldn't bear the thought of an abortion (a personal thing, wouldn't judge a soul who felt otherwise) whatever the result so I went no further, and took from it the positive that as my AFP was low there was very little chance of problems with baby's spinal chord whatever else was going on!

My nuchal fold test was good but bloods gave me a risk of 1:24, which was considerably higher than the odds for my age (43).

I found out later from MN that just being older will always give you a high risk from the bloods. In our case my DH was adamant that he couldn't cope with a disabled child so we opted for amnio. (He isn't as heartless as this sounds- he was worried that as we are in our 40s we wouldn't be able to cope with the needs of a severely disabled child and the demands would fall on our teenagers instead, which he didn't think was fair to them.)

I was so relieved when the amnio results came back OK because I didn't feel I could terminate unless the baby had a condition incompatible with life.

It depends how you feel about possibly miscarrying versus having a child with difficulties, bearing in mind there is much they don't/ can't screen for.

Hi there - I am 42 and baby due in April. Just had CVS which was really straightforward but the agonising bit was waiting for the results which thankfully came through OK. My Nuchal was 2.1mm and apparently have high PAPP A in bloods which made me 1:76 risk. I am very glad I had the CVS for peace of mind if nothing else. My thoughts are with you x
