I've been diagnosed with PND after 17 months of giving birth. I knew I was anxious and had trauma following the birth and I also knew I was finding it so tough and practically unbelievable that this is what being a mum feels like - the absolute constant being "switched on", I am exhausted. But ultimately I didn't realise it was depression and I am sad about it. My little girl is the most special and magical little being though, I feel so lucky she is our daughter but also so sad for her that I am her mum and am not giving her the best life she could be having.

For those who have been diagnosed with it, did you tell anyone? My bump and baby group are really the ones who I am wondering whether I tell or not. I see them more often than I see my own friends these days that they know far more about me than my own friends. However, they probably don't see me that way as I see on Instagram etc that they all are having more of a life than me and all seem to have thriving social lives.

Edit to add: it was my GP that diagnosed me and so the medical side of things are all informed.

My doctor asked me questions and I answered truthfully. I had no idea the journey it would lead me on. I'm so glad I did, as it changed my life as I knew it in a positive way.

I told everyone. So many people (not everyone) could relate to how I felt. I spoke to some mums who then also admitted that they also had it or suspected they had it.
It’s so common. 10 years on I still talk about PND. It needs to be talked about openly. It’s absolutely nothing to be ashamed of.

Take one day at a time. Being a mum is so mentally challenging! You won’t feel like this forever.
