Sertraline in Pregnancy

I've got a long standing history of anxiety and depression littering my mental health for the past 10 years. I was stable, not medicated and coping extremely well with life.

This year has been pretty chaotic; we've moved house into a new area, Got pregnant and am changing jobs all in 6 months.

Last week we received some really quite upsetting news about a family member and it's completely thrown me down a big black hole.

I spoke to my midwife who provides shared care with my GP and they have suggested taking Sertraline for the next 12 months to see me through the remainder of my pregnancy and early months of being a new mum.

What were your experiences of taking Sertraline during pregnancy? The thought of taking AD is making me worry quite a lot and I just don't know what to do for the best.

Hey I'm 12 weeks pregnant + 4 and I've been taking sertraline for 5 months now, I couldn't fault it at all I don't actually know where I would be if I didn't take it. Please be aware if you do take it the first week can be a little daunting. My anxiety was very bad the first week but after that I felt back to my normal self. and also if you do take it for a long period of time and decide to come of It inform your gp first and speak to them as I stopped taking it for a few days and had really bad side effects! good luck and hope you feel better soon :)

Hi, I am too on Sertraline. Have been on and off for years. I am 13 weeks now and had to start again. I have had depression and PTSD for years. The pregnancy hormones made me very suicidal. I didn't wan to take it at first but realised risk for the baby may be greater. Sertraline is the only drug I would take. I have tried few other antidepressants/anti anxiety and haven't been well on them. Good luck.
