Sex after birth

I've been told 6-8 weeks is the recommended time to wait before having safe sex after a vaginal delivery. Has everyone else been told different? Or done different?? I'm not ready yet just curious....

Depends when you feel ready. dc1 I waited the 6 weeks, but DC2 it was 2 weeks, same as DC3. basicallyonce my bleeding stopped and I felt I wanted to. Both times my GP said this was fine.

I should add though that I had no tears or grazes or anything so had no discomfort whatsoever after 2 and 3, so I probably wouldn't have been ready so soon if I'd had stitches or a graze etc

Every woman is different. It depends on recovery after the birth and how your feel. I have heard of women on mn who didn't wait and others who were not physically able for a lone time afterwards. The most important things to remember is: always use a barrier method of contraception and don't rely on breastfeeding or the withdrawal method (you are meant to be very fertile after giving birth). Sex is going to hurt a lot the first few rounds after giving birth so use lots of lube and go at your pace.
