newly pregnant and depressed

I am six weeks pregnant, have had a early scan and everything is fine, good strong heartbeat, yet instead of being happy and excited I am depressed.

I suffer from depression anyway but especially in the last two weeks my mood has dropped and I feel awful, nothing is cheering me up.

Just wondered if anyone has been through this and what helped.
Thanks

Not helpful in the slightest, but I'm the same. I'm 13 weeks and have been feeling pretty terrible for a few weeks. Luckily, because I was on Fluoxetine until I was pregnant, I have been referred to the ante natal mental health team, so will be getting some help soon. Have you talked to your midwife? I am sure she would be able to refer you somewhere for help.

Take care of yourself. Just accept that you are not well, but will get better and go with it.

Thinking of you

I am hoping midwife will sort something out, as I had depression before, my name and details are in the primary mental health team system and hopefully someone will pick up on it soon and I should get some help. This is my second pregnancy my lil boy is 6 and I didnt take anti deps during pregnancy wi him so am feeling guilty for taking them, but know that I shouldnt stop as I am already majorly down.

Hi Betty1968 are you taking any anti depressants and have you talked to your doctor? I am not feeling as bad today but I think thats due to hol from work and just being able to relax. Hope you begin to feel better soon x

I felt very low for the first few months of my second pregnancy.I'm very lucky that I have never suffered from depression but until about 14wks or so I just felt crap. I felt like I couldn't he bothered with anything and was quite tearful a lot. It didn't help that I was puking ten times a day! It suddenly got better about the same time as the sickness and have been fine since. Lo now 8 wks. I hope you have the same experience and it settles once those horrid early preg hormones do.

It might be more to do with the fact that your a raging hormone at the minute - fingers crossed for that for both of you, Im around the same as you emjayg, I suffer with depression and OCD, my moods have been terrible for the past few weeks, I keep telling myself its hormones and If I take one more test to make sure its still there I might lock myself up lol x

buterflies - I was given citalopram before I was pregnant, when I found out (now 7 weeks) my GP advised that it was safe to continue taking it. I'm sure your GP would have advised you to stop taking it if it was overly dangerous.
I have read a bit around the subject and it seems that the main effects take place in the third trimester or when breast-feeding so it may be worth talking with your GP or midwife about other treatments before you get to that stage.
Good luck for next Thursday, I will send positive thoughts your way!

Well am 13 weeks had my scan 2 days ago and everything looks fine. Still struggling with the depression but luckily I have an appointment next week wi community health team and also after my 20 week scan I am to talk to a consultant ob about the later stages of pregnancy and reducing citalopram before birth.
So at least I am getting help.
