Worsening of PND after stopping BFing???

I have been on 50mg sertraline for last 5. 5 months for PND. All seemed well until last week or two when symptoms seem to be coming back - I have just stopped BF DC2 who is nearly 7mo, does anyone have experience of PND seeming worse when stopping BF, whether on medication or otherwise?

Hi. I didn't BF my DS but I know that PND and AD's can be affected by the changes of hormones in your system- these change when you stop breastfeeding.
How long ago did you stop BFing? I would give it 2-3 weeks and if you are no better then go to the doctor and ask to have your AD's reassesed-they may increase the dose or try changing you to something else. Any changes in your medication usually take a few weeks to kick in.

I don't know about PND specifically but I know a lot of mums experience a quite emotional period just after finishing breastfeeding. As theanimals said, it causes hormonal changes, and it's quite normal to be sad about it as well as it's the end of a stage. I also think wait a couple of weeks and see if it settles down, and be extra kind to yourself :)

I have heard that bf protects some women from pnd because of the happy hormones released (oxytocin?)

Sorry no experience as still bf. Hope its just a temporary thing for you.
