To think it’s unkind to hoot at someone stuck on a box junction?

I am an utter cretin, I know, and never should have entered the box junction without being certain I could clear it, as per the Highway Code. I’ve done the theory test and know this full well. Quite how I ended up in that situation I’m not exactly sure. I’ve had a lot on my mind lately (waiting for biopsy results in particular, plus my father had surgery yesterday) but that’s no excuse. I genuinely thought I could clear it but was mistaken and ended up stuck in front of a red light.

People, understandably, were absolutely furious. But by the time it had happened, there wasn’t realistically anything I could do. Driving through the red light would not only have been illegal but could have caused an accident.

I really wish people would have some compassion and realise it was a genuine mistake made by someone under stress. We all slip up from time to time. None of us are perfect.

Yet maybe some of those I inconvenienced were on their way to hospital appointments or to be at the bedside of dying loved ones. Go on, flame me even more and make feel bad! I feel like I deserve it today. I’m a total arse, aren’t I?

what does the Highway Code say? there is your answer. Your mistake but motorists are impatient. Anyway, its gone now so everyone can get on with their life. Dont worry about it

It was a mistake, you knew it was a mistake and you’ll hopefully never end up in that predicament again. Nobody died (I assume) Just shrug it off. People can be dicks behind the wheel of a car.

Actually they can be dicks everywhere but that’s not the topic of the thread!

No, you’re not an arse OP. People make mistakes, especially when stressed and most of them aren’t disastrous. I try to be kind to people on the road and wouldn’t have beeped at you. Unfortunately some people can get aggressive behind the wheel, a lot of compassion and courtesy goes out the window. Please don’t dwell on it, give yourself a break. I hope the biopsy results are positive and that your father’s recovery goes smoothly.

You made a mistake, someone beeped to tell you you were in the wrong and was probably causing obstruction in the junction.
You were in the wrong, you know you were - he told you he was frustrated.
But that's it - we all make mistakes.
I nearly caused a huge accident the other week. I didn't mean to. I was in the wrong, people told me as such but that's it.
Put it behind you - no point stewing over things you can't change now. No one got hurt this time.
Forgive yourself, forgive those that beeped and get on with life. You'll gain nothing but analysing it over and over.

You can legitimately enter the box if turning right and then absolutely get stuck in the "box junction trap" and they recommend using a dash cam to prove in any appeal if you are fined for it.

As demonstrated here by this driving instructor. It is completely shit and other drivers who beep are just tossers.

You made a mistake and someone hooted at you. The person in the car could have been stressed or upset. Just like they don't know your day, you don't know theirs.

I've driven in a few countries and one of the reasons I think UK are drivers are so good (and statistically they are) is because of twats like the one who honked you. Because UK drivers do expect everyone to follow the rules and shame the ones who don't, people try to do the right thing. I mean you won't be in another box junction in a hurry, right?

Shit as it was, n a population level it makes us better.

Sorry about your stressful time though. Al the best with the results.
