I know I'm very late to the party but I've only just started watching this on iPlayer. However, I found the first episode a bit disturbing due to the violence/kidnap scene. I'm told by work colleagues that it's fantastic and I should persevere. Is it hard to watch throughout or should I stick it out?

No spoilers please!

Watch Silent Witness then you will appreciate how excellent HV is as a police drama. SW is utter shite! Laughable.

Agree.

Happy Valley feels a lot more realistic and the characters feel very multidimensional.

There is one voice that is annoying me, I won't give spoilers but I don't think anyone who has seen a lot of it would be surprised

Haha it is irritating!

It’s interesting how differently we are all affected by things.

I live alone and am really careful about what I watch as get very affected for quite some time afterwards. I couldn’t watch anything like Luther, The Fall etc.

id avoided HV for these reasons but actually just binge watched and for some reason I can watch it. The violence is definitely disturbing but I don’t find it gratuitous or that the camera lingers. Also I’ve noticed the sexual violence tends to be set up/referred to rather than explicitly shown ( but still effectively conveys the horror).

But no one should watch something they don’t enjoy, or get something from!
