If you're doctor isn't worried about your blood pressure don't worry, worrying leads to increased stress, which raises blood pressure. It's also completely normal to gain weight after having a child! Not only for the physical changes which occur, but the massive lifestyle upheaval!!! If you'd prefer to get back to your prev weight for yourself then by all means change your diet/exercise a little more but it doesn't sound like your doctor thought you were unhealthy.

Congratulations on baby!

Is there not a 'pod' at your GP where you can go do it yourself? We have one. A little corner in the waiting room where you weigh yourself, and take your own blood pressure.

Pop your details into the computer there, and it takes the readings. You do five blood pressure readings, and it takes the 'mean' figure. When you are not with a GP, you are a bit more relaxed. Mine is always around 15% lower when I do it by myself at the 'pod.'

I bought my own monitor, my readings taken at different times of the day over a period of time and they were normal. White coat bp as mentioned above!

You can buy a decent home BP kit for about £40 to put your mind at rest.
