You could get a home BP monitor, take it to your GP to make sure it shows the same reading, then monitor your reading at home and at the surgery to see if there's a big difference.

Some people have what's called 'White Coat Syndrome' which means their BP is elevated at the Doctors Surgery but is fine at home.

Yes, it could be white coat syndrome where your blood pressure is always raised when it is taken at the doctor's because of anxiety about the test.

I get this and I'm twice your age. I usually mention it upfront; 'Oh I get anxious in GP surgeries, so my BP often comes out a bit higher than it normally is.' Whether it's a doctor or a health care assistant, I've never seen anyone anything other than utterly phlegmatic about it. Mine is usually something around 145/78 in the doctor's, but when I do it at home it's more like 122 or 125/78.

It's really, really, really common. Combination of rushing and nerves. If you have health anxiety and do decide to get a monitor do get clear information from your GP Surgery about what's ok so you are reassured by your results, but it doesn't sound as if they feel that is at all necessary.
