To expect my DH to be able to wrap a bloomin' present!

Gahhhhhhh.

DH is a clever man. He is also a complete numpty when it comes to wrapping presents. AIBU to expect a grown man to be able to wrap a smallish rectangular present in under 15 minutes, without using up half a roll of sellotape and wrapping paper and so it doesn't look like my 20m old had a go at it??

Seriously - am I going to have to wrap every single present we either give to our DCs or from our DCs in their lifetime?

I repeat. Gahhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Gift bags?
Probably invented by a man.

BubbaAndBump · 10/07/2010 09:30

lol, probably! Budget scarcely stretches to my DH's overzealous use of sellotape, let alone gift bags! I'm just despairing at his incompetence.

btw, I re-wrapped the presents!!!

YANBU

When my DP has finished wrapping a present it looks like he's had a fight with it. Unbe-bloody-lievable.

I am afraid, unless you want your DCs presents to look like they've been wrapped by a disinterested octopus, you are going to have to do them all. Forever. Till the end of time.

mistressploppy · 10/07/2010 09:33

disinterested octopus!!

castille · 10/07/2010 09:37

My Dad was a highly intelligent man who was pathologically incompetent with paper and sellotape.

We all have our failings

onwardsmummy · 10/07/2010 09:37

Can men wrap then?!

BubbaAndBump · 10/07/2010 09:37

Maybe we could send them on a course on 'How To Be A Grown Up When It Comes To Very Difficult Things Like Wrapping Presents And Other Such Complicated Tasks' peachsmuggler? I'm sure there's one out there?!

Gift bags are excellent, also re-usable, we have one that has done the rounds of DS1's class. Is a bit of a laugh now. Best part? It is made out of recycled newspaper.

BubbaAndBump · 10/07/2010 09:38

I have no failings whatsoever castille

Elmtree1Ems · 10/07/2010 09:42

Yep.

They clearly lack the required gene for it. lol.

Or an alternate theory is one my sister once came up with called 'strategic incompetance'. Funny how guys can hold down jobs, drive cars, work out complicated technical stereo equipment....yet somehow the washing machine remains a mysterious item the workings of which they claim eludes them?

Strategic incompetance.

BubbaAndBump · 10/07/2010 09:45

Ahh yes, Strategic Incompetence - comes from the same disorder that also causes Selective Hearing

Ryuk · 10/07/2010 10:08

Supervise him for a couple of them, explaining each step and making sure he does it.

Morloth, doesn't the reciever keep the gift bag? Do you actually ask for it back?

BubbaAndBump · 10/07/2010 10:12

I practically did Ryuk!!

Any gift bags we get given are used and abused by our DCs within days as 'handbags' so the outward appearance of the presents would be the same as my DH's 'wrapping' attempts

OP posts:
Dinkytinky · 10/07/2010 10:27

You're lucky OP- my dp just sellotapes the bag shut that it was bought in!

Buuut he says my presents look like they were wrapped in a brothel (everyone loves lots of bows though right?? Right???????)

sockmonkey · 10/07/2010 10:43

My DH paid my sister to wrap christmas presents for him (this was before we were married and had a bit of spare money)
Now either I wrap stuff, or it gets given in the plastic bag it came in.

Morloth · 10/07/2010 10:45

Ryuk, no they use it for the next party and so on and so forth. Very environmentally friendly!
