I don't know why, but I really dislike seeing males (young or old) without a top on if they're not by a swimming pool or on the beach.

It just seems uncouth.

DS1 is 4, and I really don't like it if he takes off his t-shirt to run around the park or garden.

DH thinks I'm mad. What do you think?

Agree with DH

orienteerer · 23/06/2010 20:00

Garden =fine
Park = no

LaTrucha · 23/06/2010 20:01

I don't like it in teenagers or adults but in little kids, I think it's fine.

Littlefish · 23/06/2010 20:02

I agree with your DH too.

I don't mind children with no tops on, in the park or garden is ok. Not in town or anything, and I hate seeing men with their tops on unless they're at the beach.

wb · 23/06/2010 20:03

I'm with your DH on this one, I'm afraid.

I meant tops off of course

MumNWLondon · 23/06/2010 20:07

I agree. Fine in garden, fine in paddling pool / swimming pool. Not really a fan in the park.

But less offensive in the park than naked babies in public paddling pools.

pranma · 23/06/2010 20:10

Absolutely no problem with little children[either sex]bare chested anywhere. No problem with males any age barechested in park why not?

StuckInTheMiddleWithYou · 23/06/2010 20:13

Me niether pranma. Really don't get the fuss myself but then I've gone topless on the beach myself

diamondsandtiaras · 23/06/2010 20:14

males shouldn't go bare chested in the park..........if I did it I'd get arrested!!

zeno · 23/06/2010 20:16

YABU for park and garden.

I'd go further - I think if it's OK for the fellas to have their nipples on display it ought to be OK for the women too.

Don't you sometimes wish you could just take off that bra and feel the breeze? Not in an exhibitionist way, just to feel the air on your skin like the blokes get to do all the time.

It wouldn't do at all in Sainsbury's, natch!

giveitago · 23/06/2010 20:16

In little kids fine but the risk of sun damage etc...

dustycups · 23/06/2010 20:16

mine r normally naked in the garden!! saves keep putting bathers on and off everytime they go in and out the pool!

i have no problem with my dc taking there tops of in the park if they r hot they r hot!!!

can you honestly say you have never said on a really hot day 'men r so lucky cos they can take there tops off and we have to keep bra's and tops on!!'

i bet it feels lovely to parade round half naked!

booyhoo · 23/06/2010 20:18

i would love to be able to whip my top off on hot days and for no-one to batt an eyelid. especially when OH does it so freely. although his top-half is sooo much more delicious to look at than mine.

Takver · 23/06/2010 20:18

little boys/girls - anywhere fine

men - depends on the man concerned

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 23/06/2010 20:22

TBH, I find it less uncouth for little ones such as ds1 to run around in the garden fully naked, rather than just with his top off - I have no idea why, maybe I was Queen Victoria ina previous life , or maybe I'm just a bit odd .

I have no problem with nakedness - like Magdelena says, we were born naked.

I think maybe that I associate tops-off with grown up men displaying loutish behaviour and can't get past that in my head.

Time for a deep breath and let him carry on perhaps?!

Would have no problems with little boys and girls running around parks with no tops on, although I persoally prefer not too as I like to see them covered up when in the sun.

Garden - again no problem, but prefer Dd covered to protect from sun.

Teens and grown men - don't like to see it out in public TBH, unles on beach or by a pool.

CoupleofKooks · 23/06/2010 20:29

i think YABU about the nakedness, but little shoulders do burn easily

Sorry but anyone not in possesion of a six pack and/or hairy back needs to keep their tops on! Ewww!

EricNorthmansmistress · 23/06/2010 21:25

He's 4!!!!!!! YABU. Once he reaches puberty it might be inappropriate but little boys - fine.

deaddei · 23/06/2010 21:38

I hate boys/men of any age in sleeveless vests.
