Do refuse to allow painting at 7am!

My DSs,3 and 5,keep pestering me to do painting at crazy times.7am,on a school morning,or 20 mins before bed.I have no problem doing painting,have suggested it for 3.30 today...but of course I am being a horrible mummy,who deprives them of everything,sigh...Am I being unreasonable? Would you allow painting at 7am on school morning? Usually get them dressed at 8,leave at 8.15.They have had breakfast.

Personally no I wouldn't. I think you have done the right thing, teaching DS you can't always do thingd now but at a more appropriate time. Lets be honest painting at 7 and you will not be readdy to leave at 8.15!!!

I am so cruel and heartless that when my dd was younger I wouldn't let her do things just so she would know that she couldn't do what she wanted absolutely all the time so you are lovely compared to me.

Could they do something less messy at 7am? Maybe sketching with coloured pencils or crayons? If they have nothing to do for an hour - it's a long time for a kid.
my ds usually knocks off a couple of drawings in the time I'm drying my hair and getting ready. But then I kind of leave all his drawing stuff at hand on the dinner table - and don't bother tidying it away after.

Thanks Ladies.They have found other random things to do now,glad to see I'm not the only horrible mummy around! Anyone else wishing their kids would spend hours on computer games...personally I'm looking forward to the peace and quiet,.

This made me smile. DD2 asked if she could do sticking at 7.15 a.m. yesterday and when I said no, she asked for paints!

We also have to be out by about 8.20 for school.
