Worth a try - did the slat have a fault in it - often cheap wood is knotted and around the knots the wood is weaker.

This happened to us with a single bed we got for DS. It broke when DP sat on it to try it out! Wasn't Argos but the company sent a replacement part out pronto and didn't quibble at all.

plantsitter · 05/06/2010 22:18

Yes of course you can take it back. It's faulty (and you can take anything back anyway if you make enough of a nuisance of yourself).

gnatbite · 05/06/2010 22:18

I think you can definitely take it back - surely if you've only had it for four days and it's already broken, it's not fit for purpose?

YouMightKnowMe · 05/06/2010 22:19

This happened to us (but was from Courts).

The issue was a knot in the wood at a particular location it broke.

They took back the broken sslat (and a a couple of other slats with big knots), and just replaced the slats.

I bought it instore ,OheEpetive should I call customer services tomorrow and explain I have a argos card?,plus I carried it back and was helped with the bed back to car.
I think I want my money back and to take it back, plus still have the £5 voucher they gave me.

Of course you can take it back - it's not fit for purpose. Argos have a 28 day return policy anyway, but this item is obviously faulty - you should be able to get either a replacement or a refund with no problem.

MrsWeasley · 05/06/2010 22:23

Yes it can go back. It is a bed that isnt doing what it was sold to do.

mummytime · 06/06/2010 07:56

You can take it back. As people have said before the slat probably had a knot in it. This is the problem of cheap beds. I know we had one do the same, or course if you are lucky you have no knot holes and the can last for ages. (So if you get a replacement, check the slats for knots.)

cocolepew · 06/06/2010 08:03

Argos is really good about taking things back or replacing it, I've never had a problem.

SloanyPony · 06/06/2010 08:21

They have to take it back and repair or replace or even refund. You are covered under the Sale of Goods act. If you have any problems, call Consumer Direct for advice.
