AIBU in thinking it's political and everyone is snubbing us again. Just turned over to see that UK is lagging 'again' in second last position - was the song really that bad?

Killer, that must have been one hell of a festival. It must be a comfort to know you had fun even if you have no memory of it!

KillerCleavage · 30/05/2010 00:15

I wish - I was only 15! There may have been a modest amount of lager involved but that was it. Futurama at Leeds Queen's Hall in 1983. I remember loads of other bands, Death Cult, Killing Joke, Mekons, Chameleons etc etc but not The Smiths. I wish I could....

hmc · 30/05/2010 00:27

I used to love Killing Joke - saw them at University of Sheffield...also saw the Fall who will be playing at Bestival this year!!!! (and am going as an old crusty with my children in tow)

KillerCleavage · 30/05/2010 00:30

Enjoy HMC. Never saw the Fall but liked their stuff. Saw the Cult again last year and they were absolutely amazing so the old bands really can deliver the goods!

UnquietDad · 30/05/2010 00:30

There is only one answer and there are five of them. Can't go wrong.

KillerCleavage · 30/05/2010 00:31

Surely not Girls Aloud??

chipmonkey · 30/05/2010 00:33

Nah, he means Take That!

UnquietDad · 30/05/2010 00:34

Chap who wrote the Eurovision book arguing on R2 that it isn't necessarily bloc(k) voting, it's just people voting for the kind of music they know and which they and their neighbours listen to. It makes sense. He said if we sent "someone well-known like Elton John" he could win. I'd agree, although I'd say five someones not quite like Elton John and rather more photogenic in a short dress

UnquietDad · 30/05/2010 00:34

killer, chip - actually, either would be good.

KillerCleavage · 30/05/2010 00:35

Of course! Who but Gary Barlow could write a winner????

UnquietDad · 30/05/2010 00:36

Gary Barlow, Elton, Tennant/Lowe, Vince Clarke, Cathy Dennis or Xenomania, I'd say.

KillerCleavage · 30/05/2010 00:44

Anything would be better than what we've entered the last few years.

UnquietDad · 30/05/2010 00:51

There is no Emergency Sugababe Exit Protocol Button for Josh, either. I don't think JLS are going to let him in, somehow.

TiggyD · 30/05/2010 09:55

We have Elton John, Paul McCartney, Blur, Deep Purple, Eric Clapton, Pink Floyd, JJ Cale, Madness, George Michael, Queen, Rod Stewart, etc, etc, etc.

In Europe they have Vanessa Paradis, Tatu, The Scorpions, David Hasselhoff, and various accordion players and tambourineists.

Why do we want to compete with them?

HeadFairy · 30/05/2010 10:58

I think Morrissey was being ironic, but what's wrong with that? It's hardly the Ivor Novello awards or nuffink. Perhaps we should get The Hoff to do next years' entry.
