Please help me have just received a rather disturbing phone call I am a child minder and use childcare.co.uk to advertise somebody who has viewed my profile today 4 times has just called me saying

I need you to adopt my baby I live in mexico I give birth next month please keep my baby safe I pay you please please please do not hang up on my I am desperate please do not hang up on me please keep my babay safe please please please

What do I do if she phones back. I know it could be a hoax but it could also be genuine?

It is a hoax.

Even if it was real, there is nothing you can do - you can't just adopt a child from Mexico.

How sad though I hope it is a hoax.

I kind of hope it was a hoax but I worry about what if she has paid to get my details from childcare.co.uk so seems weird if she wants my money

it sounds like a sick prank phone call tbh but is there any way of retrieving her phone number from your phone company ? Maybe ask for a list of received pH call numbers if thats possible

It seems very odd. I'm sorry, I don't have much advice to offer as I really don't see what you can do. Did she say anything else before hanging up? Did you dial 1471 after - just wondering if it came up with a foreign number or an odd number. I know someone from a country in Africa and his number comes up as lots of '8's but that's it!

no came up private number but am on phone to vodafone to see whether they can do anything

Please try not to let it upset you too much as it is one of those situations where there is little you can do. Be interested to hear if they do have the number though.

because somebody has rung me since they can't trace number they have advised i contact the police just to be on safe side

LM - yes i was just going to advise you to phone your local police station & tell them the whole story . they might be able to look into it for you . good luck & try not let it upset you .

Have spoke to police they will have to pass it onto the mexican police and see what is happening. I have also contacted vodafone and asked them to see if they can retrieve the records. I have sent a message to the childcare.co.uk website asking them to contact me urgently

OMG thats shocking.

It's probably a hoax but there is a concern people are abusing the website like this.

I would contact the police just to be on the safe side and if it is a hoax then its probably against some law somewhere to do this.

OMG poor you LM, It probably was a hoax but how upsetting for you, I really hope she doesn't call you back and the police are able to help you.

Ive heard of this before on another website, I would say its a hoax, you've let the revelent authorities/people know, I should just forget it now.

It's a hoax. It's along the lines of the Nigerian scam where they offer you money to help them, but as you get drawn in, suddenly they need money to process the papers or get to somewhere where they can get the money wired or some other BS. If you dont send it their child will die etc etc.

They are preying on you because they know you love children so are more likely to take them seriously.

Please dont let this upset you.

I have heard of this b4, it is a scam, they usually call a few times then ask you for money.
Put the phone down if they call again.
